Need help ASAP electric probs on 99SE
posting on behalf of my strained friend who's in the Boston area/
99 SE, stock. All of a sudden, the factory alarm turned itself on in panic mode. The remote control started acting funky, will only open the car but won't close. The open door indicator light ( located on the instrument cluster) will continue on even after all doors are closed. Interior door lights stay on at all times. My buddy is afraid to leave his car like that overnight because that will drain the battery. Can't disconnect the battery because he has BOSE system, afraid that he may not be able to get it up working without having the code. Do you need to have the security code for BOSE? Does anyone have any idea wtf is wrong with his car? Thx

Sounds like the brain to the system failed. It's located in the trunk behind the right side trunk wall lining.
The BOSE system does not require a code to get it to work after the battery is disconnected.

sounds to me like a door pin is stuck or shorted. on the door jamb is the pin (covered by a black rubber boot) take them out one by one and check with an ohmeter that they are working properly and for rust or a bad connection.

no theirs a a box in the trunk of your car on the right side ( a little bit in front of where the jack stand is )... Carefully pull off the platic lining to give you access to what hes talking about.

DCmAN thanks. What is this "brain" unit called, how to correctly diagnose it (no check engine light or anything on the dash), and how much does it cost to replace?
