Im sure ill get flamed for this one

know i should put this in the how to's but i just figured it out today, my a/c compressor went out and i got another no big deal cept for the $283 they wanted for the thing at oreilley but what ever. well it was too humid to put in the compressor so i looked on the org and tried to find the correct size belt when not using the ac. After 3 belts and one psd oreilley guy i finally got the right size so if any one wants to know and im sure some of you already do, but i couldnt find a post on the org its 36in. I probably gained like 12-15 horses and 5-9 miles to the gallon so im not even gonna put on the new compressor i got.

peace

Worlds longest sentance.

When the A/C isn't running there is no load on the engine, your only turning a free spinning pulley.
I highly doubt you free up HP.

I think it would be noticable. When I had problems putting on my tensioner when I changed out my UDP I only had belts on the power steering(because my tensioner broke) I had to drive without my altenator and AC pulleys running. With out them spinning there was a noticable difference. Now this was a combination of slightly quicker acceleration and much quicker revving. AND that would also depend if the AC is starting to seize as well!

The alternator IS running all the time however and I highly doubt you made it more than a couple miles without it.

I expect disconnecting the AC would have some effect (similar to adding a UDP) as you are eliminating the weight of the pulley, but not 12-15HP.
