First I'm going to say, ah **** it. Why would you run your tank til it's dry? Every car is different so I'm not even sure why you're asking. You yourself just said that the needle hasn't moved in 50 miles. What if the next time you try to start the car it does't and the needle is below empty?

That's the downside of having a needle gauge vs. a digital. Occasionally that needle just won't move at all and before you know it you could very well be just about empty while you're still reading 1/8 or 1/4 of a tank. My rule of thumb...fill her up once it reads 1/4 tank. But, for what it's worth to ya...soon after I got my max about 2 1/2 years ago I got lost going to a friend's for the first time, got low on gas to the point that my low gas light came on, and I still managed to drive a good 15-20 miles or so (highway) doing about 80mph until I finally found a gas station

The light comes on when there is roughly 2 gallons left in the tank. Then again start going up a hill and the car may just die on you.

I usually let my gas gauge drop pretty low, since I drive a lot. Mine will actually go under the black line for E and still have another 1.5 gallons or so. My light also only comes on when it's at about half a gallon left, only did that once and I didn't make it very far. lol

its diff. for all cars. I know for sure, however, that you will not read 1/4 tank or an 1/8 of a tank and be near empty, for whoever said that. Nevertheless, I've gotten up to 45 miles under E before I sputtered and that once once. Since then, ive been on E, gunned it, and sputtered alot.
