Brake issue! i'd really like some experienced/professional input.
A brake 'specialist' said that the reason my brakes dont feel as firm, and dont have and quick initial bite, is because im using cermaic pads (raybestos QS) which are harder pads, and nissan didnt design the system for ceramic pads. So basicaly, he claims that the reason im needing to push further on the pedal to get a firm and quick initial bite, is because im not using oem pads.
In conclusion, im just trying to get a normal sensitive brake pedal- When i slightly press my foot on the pedal, i want to feel my brakes grabing! my pedal is getting depressed farther down than i feel is acceptable before they grab. Can anyone help?
Stopping power is great! once they bite, they stop on a dime.
Just some info you guys might like to know:
-Vehicle mileage: 138K, NON ABS
-Raybestos QS pads all around (rear pads were replaced 20,000 miles ago, front pads 100 miles ago)
-Raybestos premium Rotors also replaced with pads
-FRONT calipers replaced with pads 100 miles ago
-Flushed system with Castrol GT LMA (low moisture activity) brake fluid 20K miles ago, and 100miles ago (with speed bleeders)

Brake pads also may take awhile to seat to the rotors. That mushy feeling will likely go away in a week or two. I recently replaced both rear calipers and had Raybestos pads installed. They were the PGD540 (semi-metallic) and not QS and they took awhile to seat before the mushy feel went away. I was told this would happen and now they are fine. I was also told not to install the ceramic pads because they have a tendency to squeal.

Im sure the SS brake lines will probably help but i dont think thats the main problem. A good brake pedal will feel firm even if i put only 10-20lbs of force on the pedal. thats what im looking for. When i put about 10-20lbs on my pedal is depresses farther than id like. I seriously doubt SS brake lines will fix this issue.

if your brake pedal is mdeium, but has a spongy feel to it, you have air in your system. gravity bleeding them may help. if your brake pedal is low, i would look in to yourguide pins. and square cut seals. the latter helps in retracting the pison. they are self compensating. so they should adjust for wear. check your rear pads. make sure they are seated properly in the pison. 4 nubs are lined up. to the 2 on the pad. also with the pedal traveling further than normal, i would check your master cylinder out as it is not used to seeing the pedal pushed down that far. make sure it isnt leaking. if you want sensitive bakes you will probably have to go aftermarket. replacing everything. maybe retrofitting some parts from a bmw, 5 series, their bosch systems are really good, and do not fail.
