I emailed KYB and they saw that the AGXs for the 4th Gen won't be out until fall...I wonder if they'll ever be out now. I think I'm going with Koni, I can't wait that long.

They said the same thing last year. I dont think they'll ever make an application. As for me I'm going to try and install Koni's this weekend. I hope all goes well.

Guys... this is the 'generic answer' each company gives to customers...

Whenever I hear it.. I just nod my head and say 'thanks' and 'walk away'...

I say 'reward those companies that invest their time/money for us Maxima owners... screw the others'.... Get the Konis...

I'm still hoping, I love the AGX. On my Integra they were twice as nice as the Koni adjustables I had on it before, and almost half as much too.

You guys that are holding out for AGXs need to understand that
1) They will probably NEVER be available for the Maxima
2) Even if they were available, how much of an improvement over the Konis are you expecting? Realize it ain't gonna be much.

You have available NOW some awesome struts, Konis. What's the holdup? Just buy them. They're great. Not harsh, the firmness adjustments REALLY work, and rebound dampening is *bam* right now. The car is transformed in a subtle but very impressive way.

I think a lot of guys are interested in the (likely) lower price of the KYBs and have had previous experiences with the brand or have heard good things about thim.

I understand why they're waiting, But!!!

See if the AGX ever comes out it probably wont require cutting front struts and bolting in aftremarket instert, a la Koni. As far as I know AGX applications are a direct bolt on. Meaning they just replace the stock strut all together. So if thats what you guys wanna wait for feel free. But hundreds of Maxima.org members have been questioning reps over at KYB and we get the same answer every time, "next fall". Well I'm not waiting and its for this reason I suggest not supporting this company. Lets support those who support us. I hope reps from KYB check out this Forum periodically. Because I'm tired of these companies feeling like they're bigger than the consumer.
HELLO if there were no consumer they'd be no company!!!

Just to let a little steam off. Pardon me ladies and gentleman.

PS: Stillen if your out there I hope your reading this too!

I'm sure the Konis are great, but they do require cutting the stockers to fit them, and if you mess up, well you don't have any struts at all. I have Tokicos now, and would love to get Konis, but I'd be willing to wait a year or so to get the bolt on AGX's, if they ever come out.

I also received an email from KYB today, they said fall 2001, and even gave PART NUMBERS. That suggests that the parts are indeed in development.

Here is the email:
>>>>>>>>
We will have the AGX line available for the
1995 - 1999 Maxima in the fall of 2001
Right front - 734017
Left front - 734018
Rear - 741039

Uh, people, please don't call KYB or email this guy and COMPLAIN that KYB is slow on the Maxima AGX's. This guy was nice enough to respond to my question, so you are free to email him but don't be mean about it.

Are you sure it's going to be a bolt-on? That's why I'm waiting for them personally.

I'm glad I didn't wait for the AGX and got the Koni earlier this year. I would have been hurting with my OEM struts. AGX are very nice for the Honda applications. External adjustable. Flashy powdercoated orange color. Cheaper than Koni or the adjustable Tokico.

how can you mess up on a Koni Install?

if you mess up on a koni install you are going to mess up on a AGX install .. then if you try to put your OEM back on your going to mess up on those too..

all Koni's are .. drill hole in bottom, cut top of strut.. put koni strut inside OEM housing.. the only thing you can mess up is the install itself.. so if you mess that up.. your going to mess up any strut install

I just prefer KYB on Japanese cars. Not to mention their AGX line is like the same shock as their GAB line which costs twice as much, trust me they are AWESOME.

Difference is that the AGX are adjustable like the Konis but cost less. Most applications I've seen are all externally adjustable and seem to include the whole strut assembly and not just the cartridge.
