5-Speed swap question - Quick questions
For those that have done the 5-speed conversion, how did you jack your car up ?
1. I'm following the HLH instructions and it just says use jackstands, Does that get the car high enough up to work under?
2. Is it to cramped/dangerous to easily fit/align gearbox etc relying on jackstands?
I want to do the work myself but am just worried about the car falling or something dodgy

1. Yes but jack the car up as high as you can. I plan to buy another floor jack when I do my swap as mine only goes to 14"
2. I don't know.
As long as you properly support the car, there shouldn't be any fear of it falling. Use your head and follow the directions and you should be fine.

+1. We had no issues with the jack standing the car up. I used also left the jack "tensioned" up to the body for good measure. Did a butt load of jiggling this way and that...no problems. However, we had a cherry picker for the engine instead of going out the bottom. Also..use a jack on the I beam with the two engine mounts to lower the engine without taking it out. Get it in place...loosen the two front bolts almost all the way out...loosen the back bolts "a bit". Then slowly lower the I Beam (engine). It has to go a long ways (approx. 6-12") to get a nice shot at easily removing/inserting the tranny. Be sure to use a good tranny jack as well.
