Ok,I'm new to the forum. I have a '96 Maxima. My problem is that the brakes squeal alot. I believe the sound is coming from the front? The front brake pads were replaced at 45k miles and the car now has 56k miles. Just had tire rotation; and the front and rear brake pads have plenty of life; also the brake discs(rotors) are not wearing thin. The brake level is full. Also note the brake pads on the front are some generic brake pad I believe from NAPA auto parts. What else should I be looking at?? Is it because the front brake pads are inferior in quality?

Disk brake noise is a common complaint on all makes of car.

Some Maxima owners insist that only Nissan factory brake pads will be silent. However, I have had good results with name-brand brake parts (Raybestos, etc.). You may be able to quiet your brakes by applying Blue Good anti-squeal compound to the back of your brake pads. Please refer to the Haynes repair manual, page 9-7 and 9-8.
