I'm about to buy a car that hasn't been started since winter (about 5 months) so I was wondering what I have to do before doing so?

 

Go to Canadian Tire and buy some of that gas treatment stuff and dump it in the gas tank. Pump up the tires, check the oil, recharge the battery if necessary and give it a whirl.

Yeah just check all of your fluids. Do a oil chance also.

 

If the car was stored properly you really do not need to do much. I store my car from September until April every year while away at school and all I do is drop the battery in and off I go. Mind you, I go through a number of minor procedures in September to ensure my car is just the way I left it by April. So if stored properly all you should really have to do is like rmurdoch said: get the oil changed (if necessary...I do it anyways the day or day after I take the cover off) and have the battery charged and you should be good to go.
