This pipe is sweet!
Nice welds, nice material. The o2 sensor bungs are pre-lubed with anti-sieze.
It came in a nice box, and the pipe had a plastic bag around it. The accesories were saran wrapped to the pipe.
BTW, by the looks of it, the pipe ypou got was returned by someone else for sure. The hack that returned it may be responsible for the spray paint.
Well any paint on the ypipe will come off due to the heat so i see no point what so ever to apply any paint to it

All the welds were wire brushed to, you can see it in the photos.
I don't know how warpspeed can make any money on these things.
Also, alot of people say get stainless. But why? Y-pipes get so hot that they stay dry. Any extenal mosture is almost vaporized immediatly. It is the exaust behind the cat that is suseptable to rust. Mostly because water is a by-product of the catalytic process. And it is not hot enought to keep itself dry.
Of course I have seen plenty of post the refer to a y-pipe that is rusted out? How can this happen?

I have a 2-3 year old budget and it only leaks cause of my wrongdoing. I wrapped the flex with header wrap and took it off after a year or so. Apparently it made some small holes and it leaks. I will still recommend budget to anyone. The only reason I don't like the WSP pipes is cause of the stupid sliding flnage they have. I've seen that thing leak or bend so many times.

Exhaust systems on vehicles that are subject to frequent short trips tend to rust out quickly because the pipes do not get hot enough to vaporize the water. It just sits as a liquid in your muffler and b-pipe.
When I use to live a couple of miles from work, a plain carbon steel rear pipe and muffler would last me about a year and half.
My wife had a 94 tempo that came from the factory with a SS exhaust. She drove it about 100K in about 10 years (only 1 mile from work) and the exhaust is still mint. It is my winter beater now.
I would recommend SS to anyone who: plans on keeping their car for a while, makes a lot of short trips and lives in a cooler climate.

I would assume the reason the stock pipe lasts so long is because the pre-cats get so hot so quick.
My work is three miles away. I may be in for trouble............

sonic, our pipes look very different. Aside from the obvious fact that mine is a '99 Cali and yours is a <'99 and/or Federal, your flex section is a lot shorter and why do you have a flange on the flex section side and not the cat side?? How are you going to connect it to your cat? It's almost as if they flipped the flex section-to-cat pipe around backwards.

I got you. No need to take a new pic. Thanks.

O.k., enough words, here are the pics:
Budget/LSS Y-pipe "in" the box
Another view of the Y-pipe in the box
Y-pipe out of box
Two missing nuts and one barely hanging on!
Rough surface on the inner wall opposite the rusted bunghole.
Inside wall at bunghole
Obvious exhaust leak and ugly welds
Bright orange placed behind exhaust leak opening (for easy viewing)
Damaged hardware due to poor box packaging
Ugly weld job at Y merge
This is what your hands look like after holding the Budget/LSS Y-poop for a minute!!

Rust like that in the bunghole already? Pretty shoddy workmanship to say the least. I'm not exactly sure what the line is from the flex pipe to the cat. Why a line at all on a solid ss pipe? That makes no sense to me.This is too bad, I was going to buy one of these next month. I have no sympathy for bad workmanship and even lower patience for shiity customer service. I'm going to rethink my Budget decision.

Perfect welds, perfect bungholes, perfect stainless steal, perfect flanges, etc etc. The only thing it didn't come with was the hardware (bolts, crush rings, etc.) but I work at a dealership and got that all for free anyways. But I guess that would be one reason why there was a significant reduced price on this piece. All in all, this was the best $100 I could have ever spent on my car. No bees in the can and no leaks.
amen to that. i'm loving my topspeed. BEST $100 i ever spent, beautiful pipe...

why dont people just get the aluminum Warp. Y....for 160 shipped you cant beat it !!!!! and it sounds great and fits perfect!!!!
I don't think this one isolated 4th Gen y-pipe incident should tarnish Budget's reputation for producing a top-quality stainless steel y-pipe for our cars. I am not affiliated with them, but am extremely happy with the y-pipe I bought from them a year ago. If I were ptatohed, I would demand a new y-pipe and send the other one back collect.
You have evidence on this thread where others have had problems with the longevity of Cattman and Warpspeed too!

this is just like when after the 8,982,172 posts on how people love their Illuminas, there was one with a blown shock, i think and people started looking closer at KYB. things happen. it's almost impossible to make 100% of the parts 100% perfect.
my .02
This occurence seems highly odd of Budget...If they began to stiff american customers thats reall lowball...theres more of you guys than us
additionally, everyone on the Toronto maxima forum is pretty much happy with their budgets...except for maybe 2 ppl...dsnt make sense..maybe some jerk off who wanted to go on unemployment decided to screw your order so he could get fired?

The y-pipe I took out of the box last June was truly a sight to behold. It was almost too pretty to install. I had it installed at a shop. No paint came off on my hands or those of the mechanic who installed it as I watched.
Regardless of what y-pipe you choose, I suggest storing the OEM away safely in case you ever need it (emissions, failure of the aftermarket y etc) as they are expensive to replace with OEM.
I think this may be a miscommunication problem this pipe is obviously defective, but that happens no matter what and where you order. The problem that potato pointed out is that the customer service was no good. I think that Budget is just crappy at answering emails. As can be seen from their responses, even to a customer that hasn’t bought anything yet (me) All caps not a whole lot of info. The kind of email id expect from Mexico where English is a second lang not Canada. Perhaps if potato called them they would have been nicer about it and offered him a new pipe. It seems they are still stuck in 1998 when ppl rarely answered emails and did so thinking email was a joke.
WELL I'M NOT GOING TO SLAM BUDGET TOO MUCH AS I HAVE ONE (APPROX 1.5 YRS OLD) BUT MINE DID HAVE THE STUPID SILVER PAINT SYNDROME WHICH BURNS OFF IN THE FIRST MINUTE, BUT CONDITION AND FITMENT WAS PERFECT. I HAVE DEVELOPED THE "BEES" IN THE LAST SIX MONTHS. COMMUNCATION VIA EMAIL USED TO BE GOOD BEFORE LSS DAYS, DONE BY A FEMALE CAN'T REMEMBER HER NAME BUT CUSTOMER CONTACT WAS HERE JOB, SHE ALSO USED TO ANSWER THE PHONE. BET SHE'S ON MATERNITY AND THE MECHANICS ETC ARE FILLING IN TILL SHE RETURNS AND EMAILS ARE JUST NOT THEIR THING! LOOKS LIKE AN ISOLATED AND UNFORTUNATE BAD APPLE FOR POTATO, SUCH A HASSLE SENDING STUFF BACK..........
OOPS I LEFT MY CAPS LOCK ON!
OOPS I LEFT MY CAPS LOCK ON!
What do you attribute the development of the bees to in the last 6 months, MAXRB8?
Could it be a problem with the flex section? Have you modified your exhaust in any other manner? BlackCat and I are fine with our Budget y-pipes. Maybe its got something to do with your altezzas, lol!

I really like my Cattman y-pipe. And like Ptatohed said, Brians customer service is top notch, you can't beat it.

I believe all SS will rot if you live in rainy/snowy climates. Not Cattmans or Warpspeeds fault. They're cheaper than OEM too.

and I dont give a sh$t where a person lives you make a y-pipe charge $400 and say its SS make the whole thing SS the piping is fine but every other part is rusting off. The rings at the ends of the flex are 70% gone now.
Also my b pipe(1 1/2 years old) i payed $400 for is scaling and flaking bad from rust . JUNK JUNK JUNK
i very p$ssed off my stock b-pipe looked better after two years. I dont like the cost cutting with his parts .for the cost that they are they should be made of 100% 304 SS. There are other people out there with probs with his exhaust stuff ,headers cracked and rusty you would think for $850 they would be 304ss but there not.
Ive spent $2000 + on exhaust parts for my car and now i need more
this is why i will buy the cheapest stuff i can get my hands on because at this point whats the difference
