I have a 95se auto and checked on the drivers door pillar to see what the weight of the car is....the sticker says the gross vehicle weight is 1938kilos...or roughly 4270lbs!!! I know that this has gotta be wrong cause thats like as much as a Mercedes S class 4dr. I thought the 4th gen is about 3075lbs. Is this a misprint on my door or am I reading something wrong? (Or is the Canadian model made out of gold with a trunk lined with bricks?)

Gross weight is the maximum vehicle weight allowed.

The empty weight is 3000 to 3100 depending on options.

I always thought the car weighed around 3150-3250 or so. Maybe I'm wrong, correct me if I am. 4000 something lbs? We are talking pick-up truck weight! Either that or you have some very thick boned friends in your car!

The '97 GLE is rated at 3085lbs. The '97 SE manual is rated at 3014lbs. The '97 GXE manual is rated at 3012lbs. The '95s should be a little lighter, since they have less emissions equipment and crash safety stuff.

That weight on the door is estimated with passengers. Your suppose to subtract like 180-200 lb for for each passenger that it will seat. 180 x 5=900 lb.

instead of guessing-->

take your car to a local truck stop (near any major interstate) and weigh it on their scales. Or go to a local dragstrip and weigh it. Your estimates will be much different than your actual weight.
My 95 GXE with S/C package and aftermarket wheels(16's) RSB FSTB, Stillen Y, Popcharger and complete aftermarket stereo (no subs) weighed 3440 with me in it (I weigh 220)
I 95 Cali-spec 5 spd car with the same performance mods weighed 200lbs less than my car.
Most of the curb weights you see posted are empty weights.
