pain is ruined!!
i parked my car underneath a try last sunday and it sapped all over my car. My shop teacher told me that washing it wouldn't fix it because the sap would leave sticky rings all over my car. He told me to use a rubbing compound that would take it off. Well the rubbing compound wouldn't come off so we resorted to mineral spirit which took the compound off. 6 hours later, we realized that the compound took of the pain on my car. NOw i have blotches of dull paint all over my car and polish does nothing. The only thing left to do is either have the car machine polished and buffed at the dealership for a couple hundred bucks and if that doesn't work a paint job...which clearly i cannot afford, nor the buffing. Wouldn't this just make you day!

your shop teacher is a dumba$$.. sap comes offs, and rubbing compound shouldn't be used by anyone who doesn't know how to use a buffer.
Try a good hand glaze like 3M to restore the dull finish, you may need to use a fine rubbing compound lightly to undo some of the damage you caused.
Best bit of advice, hang out in the detaling forums, before you do anything at all.

You can get a tar and bug remover at auto stores. I've heard that Coke a Cola works too. Rubbing compound is NASTY stuff. I'd like to see that shop teacher use rubbing compound on his car.

i'm sorry to say, but for future reference. touch the stuff with your hands before you put it on your car. if it feels rough, DON'T PUT IT ON!!! and always ALWAYS wash off the stuff you are trying to use getting rid of something. did it eat away at the clear coat or the paint too. don't try to put clear coat back on cause u'll most likely just ruin it.
P.S. you can put bologna on your car n leave it in the sun and you'll have a poka dotted car -= )

Your shop teacher is a dumb@ss. Find a good detailer and they'll likely be able to fix it.
Try to find somebody from http://autopia.org/forums/index.php?s=. They're almost guarenteed to be good. GSRstilez is from CT. PM him with pics and the story and see what he says.
It could also be that you just don't have enough clear left to work with and have no option left but a repaint, but it's certainly worth a try.

It is a case for some alarm but not much, you basically probably took some of the clearcoat off. Take it to someone that can fix it, preferrably a detail shop, they may have to rub compound the whole damaged area and then put polishing compund and buff it out. Don't try to fix it yourself, just take it to a pimp detail shop that you KNOW is good. I was quoted $140 for a wetsand and buff for the top half of the car, but that was by shade tree, the shop should be able to do it for a couple hundred if not less.

Dude tell ur shop teacher to kiss ur *** and pay for the buffing or part of it cuz of his dumbass comments/ideas. We use clay bars at our dealership (lexus) when we get cars with bad tree sap. It does wonders, not only does it take off the sap, but if done correctly it leaves is as smooth as glass
