Sorry, haven't tried it. I've tried 3-in-1 oil. It worked for about a week. I cleaned everything off and tried a silicon based lubricant and that didn't help much either. Worked only a few days. It still can't retract all the way down without a little "push" from me to overcome the friction.

I'm tempted to get a new antenna rod, but it really isn't on my priority list. It only sticks out about 3 inches when down.

I don't know the condition of your antenna, but it's also possible that it is bent a little and that is causing the friction. Good luck, let us know if you find something that works well.

Thanks for the link! So, does this antenna completely hide-away when the radio is off? Was the install easy?

Just a side note, but it might be tough to know how well the new antenna works since our cars have two antennas, one is in the glass of the rear view window, the other is the retractable one. The headunit chooses the one with the strongest signal.

Good find. Thanks for letting us know that it works. I would have shied away otherwise. At that price I might just have to do this...

that black segment is probably covered with dried up grease. It's used inside the motor to keep things lubed. There's always a little bit smeared all over the antenna segments.

Just wipe it off.

The answer to your two questions are... Yes it does completely hide away and Yes the install is easy, the hardest part is getting the stock retainer ring clip thingy off, you can use pin nose pliers to turn it even though it's not threaded, that ebayr is reliable and quick on shipping for a laugh give the dealer a call and ask how much for a replacement mast!!!

I've used both graphite and WD40 over the years. Graphite works well, but it's difficult to get it where you want and some will seem to get on the paint (should it be that complicated to simply get some lubrication?). WD40 works very well obvisoulsly, but it attracts dirt.

My recommendation is WD40, and just clean it whenever it needs it.

I think what he means is since they are referred as "whip" antennas, they really don't break because they have plenty of give, unlike the power antenna. My mom's power antenna broke because a bird hit it on I-684.
