Vibration through brake pedal...

What would cause a vibration through the brake pedal during harder breaking? I have all new rear brakes (rotors, pads, and calipers) and the fronts are pretty good. Would it be air in the lines? Would SS Brake lines fix it?

Yes another brake thread...AARON

Most likely warped front rotors. You say the fronts are "pretty good" - when were the pads/rotors replaced (or last turned)?

usually vibration during braking is caused by warped rotors. even new will warp with repeated hard stops--the heat build up is the killer. also check for proper torque when tightening your wheels--overtightening will warp the rotors & cause vibs. and last but not least, if you have abs, hard braking will sometimes give vibs, but w/gxe i doubt you have abs.

I don't have ABS. My mom's 2000 GXE has more responsive, easier, and smoother braking. I have no idea what is wrong with my brakes. I don't know when the front rotors were turned. Oh yea and loud, growling noises when I brake hard after a high amount of speed. I feel a lot of the road when I brake.

I've had the same symptoms in the past. The people above are correct - it's probably your front rotors. Resurface them or replace them and your troubles should disappear. Good luck.

He means that's the cost to get them machined. You will have to remove and install them yourself to have that be your total cost.

Yes, that will add considerable cost to it. I always think in DIY terms.....sorry....most likely a 100 bucks.

Also check the slider pins on the brake calipers. Make sure they're greased and rust free.

Just helped w a brake job today where water had gotten into one of the pins and it was completely rusted inside and would not move at all.
