The results should be not even close. All though Toyota does build good cars, the performance in them is just not there. You should beat him WITHOUT any problem, unless you have a manual and just just miss every gear or something to that extent. Race him, and you will know what I mean. Good luck. Post the results.

WHOA
WHOA dude, what year camry can run a 14.8 stock? im assuming its a V6, but V6s are only available in auto trim i thought. 200hp v6 (for the recent years)... i wouldnt think thats capable of a 14s 1/4 in stock trim. were these guys on slicks or what? drop some knowledge on me, my mom's had 3 V6 camrys in a row now, and they are relatively quick, but id say that my stepmoms V6 accord is faster, and that my max will dust them both pretty handily.

i believe at least during 1997, that you could get a V6 Camry with 5speed only one way, and I think that was CE (the very base value model). being the base model, it didn't have too many options translating to possibly less weight.
the Camry V6 seems to me to have more top end and be slightly soft on the bottom end. a while back, i think i read on www.maximadriver.com that someone with a V6 5sp Camry ran a 14.9 second 1/4 mile bone stock. i believe it since the top end compliments the 5sp better than the auto. toyota auto boxes seem to shift even slower than the nissan ones as they emphasize super smooth shifts.
i believe the supercharger is for the 4cyl camry's only and is by trd, toyota racing development. it's by a division that tunes the toyotas, and may even not void the warranty on those cars. never driven one of these, so don't know what it's capable of.
no idea if the 5sp is still available, or if it was available in the 1993-1996 cars which had a virtually identical V6.

you gotta be kidding me... all these posts about SC for the toyotas made me curious so I went to the TRD site...
can you believe they make a SC for a Sienna minivan? omigosh... that'd kinda a fun for a van!
apparently, the trd setup is available for the V6 camry/solara/sienna vehicles. according to the site, they push out 4 psi stock for about a 70 hp gain and 62 lbs torque gain. they say with the s/c, the engine puts out more torque at 2000 rpm than the stock v6 at it's peak of 4400rpm.

Race him
I played with tons of Camrys and I also have a 96 max auto. Mine is the GXE and has 15 inch wheels so it's extremely light. You should beat the Camry. They have good top end but I don't think it's much better than the Max. So if you go from a dead stop, you will take him quickly and probably stay there. If rolling...could be a little tighter but I still say you have a 2 car length advantage.
