Rotors and brake pads

Hey, I'm in the process of getting a new braking system...so let me know what you have. What type of brakes and pads, and how you like them. Or what you would suggest. Thanks

I have used Hawk HPS pads twice now and I am happy with them. Better stopping than OEM and less fade. Only thing is that you will get more brake dust.

I've had both stock rotors and Axxis Metal Masters

and

Bembo Rotors and Raybestos whatevers ..

The Axxis Metal Masters worked extremely well. They would grind every now and then, but you could stop on a dime. But, they chewed the crap out of my rotors.

The Raybestos don't stop anywhere near as well as the Metal Masters. They are better than OEM, and work well. They seem quite, and don't dust bad.

I still have a soft spot for the Axxis though....

i have MM that i have yet to put in my max. i have stock rotors. what u guys mean when they EAT UP the rotors??

i still have pad life but one of these days, during summer, im just gonna do the fronts as i dont have time during the regular year. in terms of bedding them in, what method do u guys use? i find it kinda hard for me cuz of where i live. im near the city area, so having a place to go to 60 mph and what not might be tough. i was thinking of taking it to the freeway at nite or somethign.

I just bought some Brembo Cross Drilled Rotors this weekend and now i'm trying to figure out which brake pads would be the best to go with them. I don't want to eat up the rotors since they aren't cheap. I heard OEM brake pads work pretty good compared to all the aftermarket ones.... Any suggestions???

you dont need those cross drilled rotors .. you shoulda got blanks .. cross drilled squeak more, are more proned to cracking, and make more noise than neccesary .. see if you can exchange them for blanks .. if not .. the best pads, and I know from experience are OEM..there is VERY LITTLE dust, and what a relief since the pads I used to have made my rims gunmetal in 2 days, and im not kidding, they were axxis ultimates ... get oem pads, there is no noise from the oem if you use the shims and they stop well

i reccomend getting the bendix pads cermaic ones they are 35 at advanced auto and carry a lifetime warranty now for the rear anything will do becuase the rear is barely used maybe 12 percent of braking is done back there.

Oh by the way the bendix pads are very low dusting and for the price a very good overal pad

I have brembo x-drilled rotors and axis/pbr metal master pads.

The Brembo X-drilled rotors feel fine, but because they are not zinc plated, they are rusting pretty badly on the edges. My suggestion: get zinc plating, its worth the $.

The Axis/PBR Metal Master pads perform well, do not really make much noise (a very rare squealing), but they dust pretty badly (my wheels are currently covered in a layer of red dust after about 1.5 weeks).

A good/cheap setup is as follows:
Rotors: Blanks......any brand is pretty good. Just go to the local parts store and they should be like $20 each.

Pads: I would go with the Raybestos Quietstop. They have good stopping power, but very little dust. They seem to last quite a long time, because with pretty heavy driving/braking....I have had mine for over 40k miles. They only cost like $40 too.

I've got Brembo blanks for the front if you need 'em. Thought I needed to replace all 4 rotors, but only the rears, so have the fronts sitting in the garage.

I wouldn't get drilled/slotted. Even on the track, drilled can only be a potential problem for cracking. Why get them for street use?

I recently put zinc-plated drilled/slotted rotors (from iRotors via eBay ~$76/pair) and AXXIS Ultimate pads (front and rear ~$95/all) on my '99 Maxima. Also braided stainless/Teflon brake lines and Ate Super Blue racing fluid. They look great, don't rust, and stopping power hot or cold is really teriffic - nearly as good as my Porsche Carrera; no squealing, but brake dust is really nasty! Worst I've ever seen, whether Mintex, Raybestos, Ferodo, Performance Friction, EBC, Hawke, OEM, Jurid, Ate, Textar, -- these Axxis Ultimates stop great, but are absolutely filthy! I've run cross-drilled rotors on my Porsches for years now, including at least 4 track days per year where I enjoy being absolutely brutal on the brakes -- smoke, stink, turn the rotors blue -- but no cracks from the rotor holes. Yeah, I've heard that it can be a POTENTIAL problem, but in my experience, only for hard-core racers, not with hard-driven street cars.

I have heard of lots of slotted rotor cracking in hard-driven street cars.

If you don't want mad brake dust and rust on your rotors, don't get cheap brake parts like the autozone type.

Where can you get rotors for $20 each? I paid about $50+ for rabestos at pepboys, unless you buying the thin ones which can't be cut.

The dust comes from that pads....not the rotors.
I was saying get the cheaper rotors and then get good pads.
It is a good setup....I have been running them for a while.
