A/C specifications?

I borrowed a manifold set to check the high and low side of me a/c system. The readings I got were about 30 psi low side and 210-250 psi high side.

My question is are these numbers within specs?

The a/c seems to work fine but it will be getting very hot here soon so I want to get a jump on any problems. I added a can of 134 a few weeks ago as it did not feel all that cool.

It's gonna depend on the outside temp.

Exactly, but those numbers look just fine.

Outside temp was about 100 degrees.

I vacuumed the system this afternoon for an hour and she held pressure for 1/2 hour after that, so I think I dont have any leaks. I did this because a friend had a vacuum pump and I figured after 10 years it could be a good thing for the system.

I will be recharging in the A.M. with (2) cans of r-134 and (1) can on 2oz ester oil when the temps will be around 75-80. I read the a/c system holds between 21-25oz of refridgerent. Anybody see any problems with this?

Any suggestions?
any and all informed suggestions welcome. Thanks

Are the readings from the high side dependent on the outside air temp?

High and low but more so on the high side. @ 100 degrees 200 to 250 sounds fine. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't 16oz = 1 lbs. If so 2 cans would be 32oz way too much.

Joeey is correct, 2 cans will be to much. 1 - 1/2 is plenty of R134 for our cars A/C system. If you over charge it, your A/C will not work with it's very hot outside, but might work fine at cooler temps.

After charging the system the low side reading was 35-40psi and the high side showed 240-260psi. Actually the cans I used were 12 oz each plus the 2oz oil charge. I read that the system holds between 21-25ozs. In that event I might overcharged a bit, but yesterday it was 110º at 5pm and the a/c felt nice and cold. .

I have another question... my AC is blowing the temp of the outside air so I figured that it needed a charge. So I charged it up to about 35 psi and it still wasn't blowing cool. I think that it may be my compressor?

What else could it be?

Same problem here. I know the clutch for the compressor kicks on cause i can hear it. Someone told me there is a pressure valve that regulates the pressure that may be stuck or malfunctioning. I dont know enough to say wether that's right or not.

Same here, when i had my AC charged yesterday, the mechanic told me I have a sticky valve. I get cool air but not cold. It's only cool when the outside temperature is cool. Any idea?

where is this so called valve located because I think I am having the same problem. The tubing from the compressor is getting cold but after the connection, the tubing thereafter is not cooling. I am guessing that the valve is at this connection? Let me know... it is getting hot here and I am dying of the heat and the leather... can you say.... WETBACK!!!! no pun intended...

I'm not sure where the valve is, but apparently it's a common problem. Mechanic quoted me like 125 bucks to fix, so i'm guessing it's not that expensive either.
