how did you get the job? Are there designated times where dealerships need staff? Is it based only on employee referrals? I'm fresh out of college and I've interviewed for every firm that has to do with finance. I've come to the point where I'd even be a Nissan car dealer parttime and do my real estate on the side. so back to the original question. How'd you get it? Shoudl I just go in and annoy the managers?

Supply and demand. In New Jersey minimum wage is the same as what the DOL set, $5.15. Shouldn't be hard to get a job at a Nissan dealership. Now if you're talking CT where it's $7.10, it's a different ball game.
Not sure why someone would aspire to working in a Nissan dealership. imho your parents should be giving you advice on career choices, not a forum on the internet. But if you want to work there, sure, use common sense. Just drop by with your resume and leave it with the receptionist.

when i was at the local nissan dealer a while back picking up a part for my dad, the manager offered me a job in the parts dept because i was knowledgable in nissan parts and actually knew more than the people actually working there, but i turned it down because they said i would have to work full time (40 hrs a week) and i had to be at least 18, at that time i was 3 months shy of my 18th b-day.

If you want to get a job in finance you have to go and talk to the F&I Director at any Nissan dealership. They will send you off to school and everything. you won't make 7.50 an hour it will be commision. If you are good you can make 6 figures. I work at a Toyota dealership in the Internet department and I don't have to worry about money. You might have to work your way up selling retail but if you have your degree you can probably skip all that. The Managers make all the money. It is a good gig. Good Luck.

Wow. I would have never imagined someone wanting to work at a Nissan dealership so bad. Let me guess, you want to work at a nissan dealership so that you can have a huge discount on parts? ...or is it that you cannot find a job anywhere else? Not everyone will make a good salesman ya know. I wish you luck and hope you do, but please don't sound like working at a Nissan dealership is Nirvana. My friend finished finance and he eventually ended up in a big corporate division, planning out their budget etc. I don't see how being a salesman at a Nissan dealer will EVER help your finance career. Just my $.02

imho we have to stop this idea that as long as we can swindle people, we can make lots of money. Believe it or not, there is some correlation between skill level and remuneration.
In my mind, 6 figures is an artificial threshold. It is a number that is ten grand over the social security cap, and also a number which separates men from boys. That being said, reaching that level is fairly competitive.
