Question

Well folks, most of u have seen the damage on my 98 maxima, and u all know that its not easily repairable, I found a 97 5-speed for 4700, hopefully I can knock it down 500 bucks, I just wanted to ask, I'm planning to sell my current maxima to the body shop that I was going to have it fixed at, how much do u guys think I should sell it for?

any advice would be great, thanks guys

Yes, seriously, not ALL of us know. And it's good practice to provide a link or pic when posting this type of thread just in case someone forgot.

Well, it could be fixed, but that seems like a good deal you've got there. What are the details on the 97 does it have any options, 345,000 or 78,000 miles?

Depends on how much you like your 98. I'd go for the 97 personally.

well i would definitely say keep em both. buy the 97 and keep ur old one parked for a while. work a couple of hours of overtime say for the next couple of months....save some cash on the side....then fix ur maxima that was crashed by the stupid drunk driving female.
in the mean time....look around for diff. body shops to fix ur car. get estimates and see who has the best price.
if u lived down here in miami.. .i couldve given u tons of shops that i personally deal with.
but i have this one guy that will do it in the side for blackmarket prices.
FYI- i was a previous 1992 integra owner. i crashed the front end due to nasty florida rain storms. i had to rebuild/straighten out the entire front end. i went to the local junk yard purchased a front end from an integra and my buddy wwho knows what hes doing...took my integra...chopped the front end off and welded on the new one plus straightened my slightly bent chassis in 1 week in his backyard.. total cost of parts/labor- parts were 350. he charged me 600 in labor.

imho...id keep ur max .....besides 2 maximas are better than 1

hahaha, thanx it would be great if I can keep both of them, but as of now I"m currently unempolyed, so cash is not as flowing as I wish I could be, hence why I have to sell my crashed maxima, but still, i would like for u guys to tell me how much I could sell my trashed Maxima for

nothin less than 3000. be picky and dont settle for less. maximas obviously have a high resale value. from the looks of the pix....i wud ask for more cuz the damages do not look soooooo severe for u to stoop below 3000. thats my $0.02

I'm confused. Isn't her insurance paying for the damage on the crashed Maxima? Or do you just get paid the $3,500 estimate and can do whatever you want with the car?

It doesn't work that way where I'm from, unless the car is written off and then sometimes you can buy the car back from the insurance company for peanuts and do whatever you want with it.

It appears to me that the 1998 is not a write-off, particularly given the repair cost is only $3,500. Why don't you just get it fixed?

well, I got paid $3,600 as the estimate and can do whatever I want with the car, I'm going to tell my mechanic to milk as much money as possible from the insurance, he says I'm better off buying the 97 Maxima, because fixing it will take a whole lotta time and money. I'm currently looking at a 94 Prelude right now too, but I'm really hoping for the owner of the 97 to call me back soon

I'd also like to ask u guys... How do u increase a car's Torque?

yeah I'd like to know that same thing, how to increase the torque. See, I test drove a 2001 prelude and was thinking about getting one. It was a fun car and all but it didn't any low end ***** whatsoever. Nothing compared to my maxima.

It is common knowledge on this website that the best bang for the buck mod to increase both torque and horsepower is an aftermarket y-pipe! Go on motorvate.ca and look at the dyno charts. You can get a stainless steel Budget y-pipe (lssexhaust.com) for about US$200 plus a modest shipping charge.

And I swore that I would never start a y-pipe thread, lol!

What options and miles does it have. If it's low mileage and fully loaded, 4700 may be a good price.

It all depends on how much damage there was. Make sure the car is in proper alignment and runs true, ie. doesn't pull or shimmy, and check for uneven tire wear. Also try to get a work history for the vehicle. Good luck!

If the 97 checks out okay and you buy it, why not part out your old car, and post in the for sale forum, if you're organzied and willing to ship there's plenty of $$ to be had, that's what the wrecker will do with your car anyhow. Post in the for sale thread "Possible Maxima parting out" and see what the response is, that will give you an idea if it's worth your while.
