How did you fix your 702 code?

The code has come up 2 times now in the last 2 months after I reset the computer.
I thought it might be some bad gas.....not.

So my first and cheapest guess would be to replace the spark plugs, they have around 25,000 on them.

Anyone else find the culprit to this code?

97' SE
97,000 miles
Aftermarket exhaust and cat.
Cold air intake.
Automatic.

0702
Diagnostic Trouble Code 0702 points to a problem with the three-way Catalytic Converter.

The Cat is one of the principal components of the emissions control system. The Engine Control Module monitors the signals from the two front Oxygen Sensors and the one rear Oxygen Sensor. The signal frequency of each sensor indicates something about the condition of that sensor. A comparison of the frequency of the front sensors with the rear sensor indicates something about the condition of the Cat.

This malfunction was detected when the ratio of the signal frequency from the right bank front Oxygen Sensor to the signal frequency of the rear Oxygen Sensor exceeded a critical threshold value. This indicates that the Cat does not have enough oxygen storage capacity. The right cylinder bank is also called the rear bank. It is cylinders 1,3,5. Possible causes of this DTC include ...
- Three-way catalyst
- Exhaust tube
- Intake air leaks
- Fuel injectors
- Spark plugs
- Ignition timing

Code 0702 lit twice in the last 10 days. It did not came back since my second reset 4 days ago. (Fingers crossed). Maybe this code is just a fluke, and will not come back randomly for a little while again.

It could signify a bad cat too... if the car hasn't been running right, it can melt the honeycomb in the cat, and cause your car to lose power/mpg.

I fixed my catalytic by impaling it with a broom stick . No problems since.

Why do I get the feeling the "environmental/ legal lectures" are about to start? lol

Because it is ridiculous that you did that. If everyone who had a problem did that then we wouldnt even be able to breathe.

I just changed my spark plugs last night and reset the computer.

The code came back on today.

I will now change out the firewall O2 sensor since I did the radiator O2 last year.
