Cost for exhaust repair? For quote.. is it good?

I somehow did something to the underside of my stock 97 SE this past weekend. It is really loud when I accelerate almost like the exhaust is gonna get loose any second.

I was just quoted $650.99 for a "flex pipe, two gaskets, rear muffler assembly, and labor".

what do you think?

so they won't replance the cat or the b-pipe? seems like you could get a better deal with a new y-pipe ($200) and some catback or b-pipe + muffler. and doing the work yourself would save a few $$ also.

Too much......go get everything aftermarket. It may end up about the same, but you get some performace out of it. It sounds like your y-pipe is leaking, the rear muffler assembly they can customize for no more than $130, and get an aftermaket exhaust if you need it.

Get and estimate at a muffler shop or two. Most of them are free. Try some of the independents vs. Midas, etc. In the Chicago area, I just had some exhaust work done. All things being equal, the Fair Muffler shop was $450 less than Midas.

Do you already have an aftermarket y-pipe? If not, get one they are a heck of a lot cheaper than OEM and are a performance enhancement.

I noticed my flex pipe is missing some weaving. Not the entire thing but a small part of it. Must be due to rust and fell off.

What's the worst that can happen? I don't really notice anything different when I'm driving.

Maybe tape it up with some kind of exhaust tape, not wrap, before its catches on something.

Tahnks for the replies guys. I really don't have the time to investigate aftermarket performance options and/or do it myself. I may get another quote to see how much different.. but I am gonna let a garage just do it with OEM parts.

I did everything from the end of the headers to the muffler tip for $870. All aftermarket, includes shipping, and all brackets.
