Ok i know that them frankenstein 4th gens out there with the 3.5 in them are sweeth but why only Maxima 3.5's why not the one from the 350z or G35 coupe or sedan it is the same engine right just the way its mounted in the engine bay

 

I would also like to know how hard it is to put a 3.5 in the 4th gen maxima. Once my engine kicks the bucket that is what I would like to do.

 

The engines in the G35 and 350Z are both mounted longitudianlly (front to back vs. side to side in the Maxima). This is becuase they are RWD cars. You cannot simply just rotate the engine to fit in the Maxima engine bay, becuase of this.

by the way, the Frankenstein is a LS non- VTEC converted to VTEC (thus LS VTEC) it's switching the head, not engine.

 

as AIrey said, G35 & 350Z = RWD, Maxima = FWD. Find a VQ35 from a 5.5 gen or if you're lucky, a 6th gen

 

The part# for the heads are different and are a 'GENIII' design rather than the Maxima's hydrid 'GENII/GENIII' design with a different part#

Other than that, like others have mentioned, one is a RWD and the other is FWD. The engine mounts on the block would have to be modified in order to work. Its easier to just start with an FWD block.

 

so the blocks in the 350Z/G35 motor are diff from the ones in the max ;makes reasonable sense but how bout heads cams things like that wont they be worth transferring over for 287HP motor

 

There is very little difference between the 3.5 engines in all the Nissan/Infinities (5.5Max/I35, G35, 350Z, 6 Max, Altima). They all make nearly the same horsepower to the wheels, but since they're for different market segments, their advertised horsepower figures differ. Your best bet would be to just swap parts in from a 5.5 or 6th gen Maxima and not worry about the rest of the horsepower.. It's nothing that a couple bolt-ons couldn't fix.

 

The only difference is the Intake manifold and the ECU comparing the 350Z and G35, unless you're talking about the track edition.. , and of course it's mounted differently.

How hard is installing a FWD 3.5L in a 4th gen? Check out the all motor forums ... there are many different methods, if you're not comfortable with the whole procedure, then find a "swapper" in you region ...
