You never forget your first time...

You always remember your first time….

In your first car, that is.

I thought, just for fun, I’d start a thread about your first ride. For some, that would be the same car that they now own. For others, that “pride-and-joy” could be something totally unlike a Maxima.

My first car turned out to be, in years to come, a hard-to-find classic, as did many cars from the 60’s. I had a 1961 Buick Invicta Custom, 2-Dr. “Bubble-Top.” It got its nickname by the wide expanse of glass that surrounded it. My parents got me that car when I was 16 – mainly because of its great visibility.

It was light yellow in color, and had plaid seats. My friends called it, the “Banana.” It did not take me long to have it painted gold and replace the cloth seats with rolled and tucked black vinyl. What Daddy and Mommy did not know was that this car was a wolf in sheep’s clothing.

It was a 401 cu. in. V-8 mated to a two-speed automatic – just “L” and “D” on the shifter. With a single, 4-barrel Holley carb, it put out 325hp and 445 ft. lbs. of torque. Not only was it a great-looking car, it was a beast on the street! I made it my hobby to make it more of a screamer by adding dual exhausts, a Edelbrock manifold and two 4-bbl Holley carbs. The output was bumped up to 365 bhp at 4400rpm and 470 ft lbs. of torque at 2800.

I got into taking it to the track every Sunday – the track was converted from an old airport in North Miami. I don’t remember what my best time was, but I consistently ran in the high 14’s and just under 100 mph. With a two-speed auto, all I had to do was put it into low, and not upshift until I hit 70mph. Back then gas was around 45 cents a gallon – which was good considering that my ride got about 11-12 mpg.

Ah…what fun it was.

cool post idea, but i think that it has been done before in the correct forum. Perhaps the 'general forum', or 'other cars' forum?

my first was and is a max, by the way. and she has been great to me...

Lies, Nissan 6's first car was a RED Maxima! My first car is a 1995 Pontiac Sunfire which was handed down from my mom, to my brother (after mom bought some Hyundai Santa Fe), then to me (after brother bought a 2002 Acura RSX Type S)

Ya, isnt she beautiful. I miss the ol girl

But seriously, i had a '91 Nissan Stanza SE 5-spd. That sucker was at 240,000 miles when i finally got rid of it. Still ran like a champ too. All that milage and only thing i ever did to it was change a water pump. Oil, tires, plugs etc... reg maintenance. THAT right there is one of the reasons i drive Nissans.

i thought the same thing at first... My first car was my grandpas 88 or something oldsmobile cutlass sierra.. with custom plastic spoiler, stapled roof inside, and a tranny that only lasted me like 5k miles once i got the car. Then I went into a 94 dodge intrepid which i still have but its broken, then into a 91 Eagle Talon TSI, and now i drive my 98 max. Took a while for me to get to the maxima but i like it the most out of all the cars...

my first "garage car" was an 87 tercel...which only ran 11 miles due to head gasket problems....

my 2nd i got when i was 17...its my i30...i love that thing...i think the best feature was when i started modding it...people would be like...what kinda infiniti is that??!(debadged rear) and i love the way it sounds (topspeed y-pipe - cattman axleback w/ hacked intake) and when people sit inside the compliments dont end(proper interior maintenance) even with the indiglos.

* this IS the most comfortable car i've ever been in...EVER! the ride is so smooth...thats why i had to go with something adjustable for my shocks...

My first car is the one in my sig, got it a few months ago but it's suffered a bunch of battle scars from parking in the city. The rear bumper has a bunch of dings on it, the front bumper is fully rock chipped, and parts of the car looks like they've been keyed up.
