O2 sensor install?
O2 sensor install?
check engine light came on minutes after y-pipe install! today I went to stealership and they quoted me $180 for the front left sensor, something like that! i dont really know how to change it myself nor do i want to try and end up screwin somethin up, how much is a reasonable price for a shop or someone to change it for me? oh, and pepboys quoted me $80, big drop! i wish i had a freakin warranty
no one huh, just askin cuz ive read the sticky on it but i really dont have access to any tools or space wutsoever, sounds bad but tru, and i think someone else could probably do the job a lot easier and quicker. its one of those things where i just want that darn orange light gone
I just replaced my right front O2 sensor on my own today. When I priced the part, Autozone wanted like $85 for the part, I found a local parts place where I got it for about $75....just for the part.
Now, as for the repair itself....while I was under there I took at look at the left sensor too (since I was replacing the right) and that one seems alot harder to do...it's in a pretty difficult to reach spot...the right O2 sensor was easy to do and had easy access. So in conclusion, if PepBoys is charging you $80 for parts AND labor... sounds good.
(Just so you know... they also have a cheap O2 sensor, the "universal" one where you have to cut the connector off of the old one and splice the wires to the new one. It runs like $30-50 I think. I'm not too good with electrical stuff so I went for the Original Equipement type but PepBoys might use this type if their only charging $80 installed.)
Hope I helped!

its really easy to install. go to autozone and ask for O2 sensor socket for rent and use it to take it out and take it back to autozone and get your money back. 15 bucks deposit. install for free
A "crows foot" O2 sensor socket adapter will make easy work of loosening/tightening the sensor.
As for actual sensors, I don't think there is anything wrong with going aftermarket. Bosch actually makes the OEM ones. I would avoid the aftermarket sensors that do not have a harness plug attached to them. These cheaper sensors require cutting the leads and using crimp fittings to reconnect the wires--something I find to be a liability in the future. If you get Bosch with connectors (ie. OEM replacement), you will also get the plastic wire (push-in) attachments. Otherwise, just rip out the old sensor and wire, and use zip ties to secure the new O2 sensor wire.

its really easy to install.
The left one just seems to be in a rather difficult spot, unless you take some stuff off the bottom of the car.
