All 95-99 manual transmissions are interchangeable. I don't know about autos though. You didn't mention if you have manual or auto.

I don't think that the axles are different on any of the 4th gens unless they are a Canadian LSD model or I30. Im not 100% sure though on a 95. Junkyards should know the answer to your question though. Try www.car-part.com. I have a 98 and I just ordered a transmission with 40K on it from a 99 and I know that the axles are the same on those. God I hope this transmission doesn't have spalled bearings My axles wiggles around inside my tranny like crazy and the leak is getting worse by the day. Its insane that we even have to worry about bad trannys on our cars with less than 100K miles....

I am do for another tranny soon also, my tranny is leaking from where the passenger side axle goes in. It didnt start to leak tell right after i got another engine put in. Atleast it held up for 127,000 with out a leak.

how much would a used tranny cost. From what i see on car-parts.com, they cost more then a engine.

I haven't looked at the autos but I know the 5 speeds are pricey. I bought mine today for 800 shipped.

Yeah just a little warning - make sure you get a transmission that has been "tested as good" - I bought one off car-parts.com (that was sold as being in perfect condition), installed it and then after all that hard work I took my car out for a drive...and the 2nd gear syncro was gone. So I had to Re-Order another transmission and do the whole thing over again 1 week later.

Also remember you can swap in 2000 and 2k1 transmissions too, they're stronger than our trans and immune to our weird bearing issues.

If the leak is the problem (as opposed to a symptom of something worse) then you just need to replace the seal, right? Why buy a new tranny?

didnt really think about that. i thought that since our bearings go out all the time in our trannys i thought that was the cause. I'll take it to a shop on tuesday to have it checked out.

Im not so sure about that man. I have seen rebuilt 2k-2k1's for sale on ebay that died of bearing failure. I have also seen some in the classifieds on this site that had bad bearings. I happen to think that since they aren't very old that the problem isn't widely known about in those trannies though.
