horrible install of the y-pipe, story is long

so i come home from work this morning. ( i work overnights). i'm chillin n then i decide to wash my car. just finished washing my car, didn't even dry it. DHL comes, pulls out a big box. I started to grin, he asked is this the right address?? i look, it has my name, and it came from budget!!! YAY!!! i'm going away this weekend, so i didn't even dry my car, i went out to look for places that would take my rusty bolts off since i kinda stripped one already.

They all wanted $85 for changing the bolts n another $90 to install the y-pipe. so i come home and do it myself. i get everybolt off but one. i couldn't get this one off. so i decide to take the cat off also so i can just bring it somewhere for them to torch it off since it would be cheaper. i start to take off the other bolts. stupid me was using an airgun, instead of loosening the bolts, i tightened them. i didn't realize till i did both sides!!!! so i finally bring it after like 2 hours of playing with the bolts. I bring it to one cheap gas station cause i know its cheap labor and it was only one bolt i needed to take off so there i am. pulling up my car on the lift. guess what???? my car is too low!!! i can go on the lift!!!

i bring it to another shop, they do it fine. At that point, i asked them how much would it be for you guys to throw the y-pipe on, they said they can't do it because they eliminate pre-cats. i said ok, i understand, can you just torch off the bolts? they said sure. 10 minutes later. NOW they won't even torch the bolts off because they're helping me eliminate the cats. i come home, and i'm like, oh man, so i remembered there's one more shop i went to it, this time i didn't even tell them what i'm doing, i told them i'm replacing a stock y-pipe with another stock y-pipe. $82 bucks.

i come home. put my car up, it starts to pour!!!! i'm all soaking wet, the exhaust is all hot, i'm dieing under my car since my car is soooo low, i barely have any room to work with. i take my y-pipe down, I FORGOT THE 02 SENSORS!!! took my abother 15 minutes to bolt the y-pipe back up, i got the front 02 sensor quick, the back one was tricky. dunno why. it was being retarded. I"m finally done, and i love the y-pipe, but never will i ever install one again.

time i left my house to get try to get the y-pipe installed was 12:30. the time that i finished was 6:45.....6 horus in 15 minutes for intalling a y-pipe?!?!?!?!?! ridiculous!!!!!!!but i think i need to tighten the bolts from the cat to the exhaust since they re did them too, but i'm too tired n its raining out, i'll fix it later, a lil exhaust leak isn't gonna kill me....

LOL, damn, good read and funny as heck! but hey, at least you can enjoy it more now. the harder you work for something, the more you appreciate it afterwards.

Oh, just remember this for next time. "Righty Tighty, Lefty Loosy" laters.

Good story, and I think you will laugh at it as soon as you feel the extra power.

The moral of the story: Always get a good night's sleep before attempting to install a y-pipe, lol!

That sucks but its done. I would have recommended rodriguez tires in perth amboy..They do all sorts of work and prices are good. Only issue is time,,they take forever, drop of car and come back.

Yea what's even worse is taking the Y-Pipe and Cat off, but finding out the stock catback is very rusty and can't loosen it from the cat. So you have to replace everything and can't drive your Maxima for 5 days...

When a friend of mine installed his budget y-pipe it took him about 9 hours. I met with my friend at his garage at like 10am... Left for work right after that. I worked 8 hours, came back and he was JUST taking off the old y. He just couldnt get the damn bolts off, and he didnt exactly have the best tools. Luckly when my Y comes in I got someone that will install it for free thank god
