Tint is worth it if you have leather and a black car...
It does not get as hot in the summer with tint on...
Depending where in NY you live, the cops and to strickt on tint if you are close to leagle.....
People with 5% are the ones they go after....

Yeah, I wouldn't go anywhere near that low. Maybe 45% to be on the conservative side, but I'm not sure how much of an effect I'd get from such a light tint. I can't believe 70% is the law. It seems that many other states are a little more reasonable, letting you go down to 35%. At least you can tell that is tinted!!!

I hear that about the 70% light transmission. In my town recently there was an article in the paper that the Bethlehem police were going to crack down on window tint. Hopefully, I can fly under the radar for a while until this passes. It's brutal only tinting that light. Mine are 20% all around, so I'm suceptible to being nailed. I drive reasonably so I hope I don't get hammered.

Hey man. I'm from NYC, too (going to grad school upstate). Where is this shop? And what's their regular rate? I'll be in town again next week.
Last thing, what %tint did you do? I'm a little worried about getting tickets, so was I thinking something not too drastic, but still noticeable.

Woah. Can I really go down to 35% in NYC? Someone told me that 70% transmittance was the law. Are they talking about out-dated laws? There's even some site that shows that NO TINT is allowed, but I'm pretty sure that one is wrong.
So is it 70% or 35% for the side windows?

I live in CA and any tint in the front is illegal. I have 20% all around. It looks kinda legal in the sun. In the shade, like where the pic is taken, it screams "pull me over."
I suggest 5% in back and 35% in front.

The tickets are like seat belt tickets in most states, just a cheep fine...
And I believe in NY they give you a ticket to take to a repair shop and heave a mechanic sign it to prove you took the tint off...
If you get it filled out they will drop the fine...
If you know a mechanic you are set till you get pulled over 2-3 time by the same cop....
Most cops wont pull over for tint, just use it to give you a ticket when they cant get you on anything else...
like when you get pulled over on a friday @ 3am, and the cop says you look stoned, and searches your car to no avail...
He writes a tint ticket so he can feel less like an idiot..
LOL
Stupid cop...
HAHA
Did not cost me a dime
Only 10 mins at my buddys shop and 10 mins at the poilce station.
I even drove the tinted car to the police station to drop the ticket off that said i got it removed...
LOL

MASSACHUSETTS tinting saloon
Is there anyone from the Boston area that knows of a reputable tinting shop?
I found this place in charlestown: http://www.tint-it.com/about_us.html
Also, post your legal 35% tints if you have them. Otherwise, post your problems // no problems with anything lower.

unfortunately I am not buddy-buddy with any shop owners, so I'd end up having the tear the film off... Will they pretty much ticket you if they see ANY FILM or only if you are really dark. I'd like to try to get away with 45% or something light... (70% is all they allow)

I'm still hoping for a picture of someone with a relatively light tint. As in around 45% all around. I see one guy with 35% on the front, but way darker in the rear, it's hard to judge what that would look like all around.
In NY both side windows have the same 70% law, so having the windows tinted differently would draw MUCH more attention to the fact that it's tinted! Attention = bad in this case...
Maybe all the NY, RI, NJ, and PA people like living on the edge, or don't mind getting tickets

You just answered my question of whether "it's worth it" looks wise to do a relatively light tint. I think the 35% still makes the car look much sharper, and it's light enough to stay under the radar screen of cops (for the most part). I think it would look relatively un-obvious on my car b/c of the dark color exterior with light color interior. It would look like reasonable visibility at that % to not get cops suspicious.
Have you ever had a cop bother you about tint at 35%?
#38
Nope, no problems with the cops. I believe 35% is the limit in PA anyways. Click on the link below for more pictures of my car with the tint at different angles. If you have a light interior you might want to go with something a lil darker like 20% because my dark interior makes my tint look a little darker. With a light interior like you have, it might look too light. Just a thought.

With the law being 70%, I don't think I'd push it past 35%! Hopefully 35% will still make a difference. As is my car looks as clear as a fish-bowl in the day time which is a terrible match for the dark exterior.
ZERO TINT (damm that sucks...)
