Trimming Bumpstops/dustboots?

I will be installing Illumina's and S-Techs sometime next week. I got the dustboots from advanced auto, the 95 Mustang for the rears and the 95 Miata for the front. How much do I need to trim? I will have the long travel rear mounts if that changes anything at all.
I'm sure this is around somewhere, but couldn't find a definite amount.
Also, can they be trimmed even when they are on the car?

Thanks for the help!

i should read more books...

hmm, I don't remember how much you are supposed to trim. Try a test fit and then trim? Might be in stickies somewhere.

I thought it was the fronts from a mustang, rears from a miata. I don't know if it matters, but you might want to check if you got the correct ones. And the instructions for the s-techs say no trimming is necessary.

yeah, you're right. my bad. but i did order the correct ones, so that's all that matters. I guess rather than looking for a number measurement of how much to trim, i would rather know how I will know how much to trim. or how should it fit when i put it on?

will it be obvious when I get everything together, or what?

thanks for any and all help.

I did my suspension yesterday with Illuminas and Tein H- Techs and the KYB boots and didn't trim anything. Pics will be up tomorrow BTW.

alright, nice. how did installation go, by the way? do the illuminas come with installation instructions or is it pretty easy? i have read a few of the instructions on maxima.org and the vqpower.com sites, so i'm pretty sure i can do it. oh, and did you use air tools? my bolts looks pretty dirty/rusty; possibly seized. that's the only part i'm concerned about. did you have trouble with that?

thanks
