Should i get Stillen Hi flow intake or Injen CAI ?
Which one should i get? I dont want to cut a hold in my car so these are the 2 i narrowed it down to. Does one have better gains then the other? Thanks

get a place racing cold air intake. Its the best you get the cool air outside the engine bay. Factory and the ones under the hood suck hot air in= loss of power. True cold air intakes have up to 45 degrees cooler air on hot days=more power!!!

Well recent statements indicated that you shouldn't even get a K&N filter if you stick with stock intake. But if you insist on an aftermarket intake...Stillen is more convienent...And in case there's a flood, your car won't get messed up as easily.

Since hacking is the most popular thing it seems, where do you hack it? I would figure on the driver's side, the side closest to the side wall. But that area is pretty small, I have seen a hacked air box a while back with an intake funnel that seemed to head around the battery.

here is some info on the injen
http://www.customenterprise.com/view.../vts/design017
it doesnt look that bad, however it looks like its going to recycle the hot air from the car to the pipe... good thing is that its a cold air intake meaning the pipe should ram the air in quite nicly regardless how hot it is.
i like the stillen much better, but i wanted to try this injen one... not going to tho![Frown](https://maxima.org/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)
here is the link to the hacked airbox

here is annother link to HACKED AIRBOX WRITE UP**

that may help alot the hacked airbox... cause some people just like it, and it may do some simular gains.

yes, all intakes other than stock will make more noise. anyways thats what seems to happen.
more air will increase some kind of performance some where.
wheather it be just giving more breath to the car (instead of running out) or at certain RPM's.
some will take in hot air or some cold air, colder the better... if you are in hot air theirs ways to combat it, tho its not easy.
there are usually benifits to a modification, cause in theory "MORE AIR IN = MORE PERFORMANCE" so if you hacked something and its not improving then you probably did a half baked job at it and need to re-work/re-think it.

whew!!
I just had to get it off my chest.
But why would you ever want to lose performance? For looks?

I have a "hacked" air box, actually I just removed the bottom of the airbox, I noticed it sucks alot of air in the mid range, but kinda trails off up top. So if you drive over 5 grand all the time get a CAI, where it will really matter. But if you are driving it daily a modded airbox will work just fine I think. And if you need some bling get a shiny mid pipe

I just got a 98 maxima gle and I was thinking about making a few mods to it. I've never done any work on cars before so i'm basically inept at it all. I was also thinking about getting a stillen hi-flow intake as my first mod. How hard is it to install it myself? Or should I just find a shop to get it done at. Also can you guys suggest some very basic/easy mods I do?

thanks for the welcome, and do i need any special tools?
one other thing, the stillen hi flow, injen cai, and hks super mega flow, are all the same type intake mod, right? or can do combinations of them? ~_~ i'm really noobish.
btw, any idea how much it would cost to let a mechanic do my intake or y-pipe mod? in case installing them is beyond me.

I was just reading about short ram vs CAI, doesn't the injen cai yield more hp than the stillen hi-flow? wouldn't getting a CAI be better then? and are there any other options for CAI systems for 98 maximas? please advise! it seems the more i read, the more questions i have... ~_~
EDIT:
oh yeah, can anyone give me an estimate on how long it would take for someone who has no understanding of working on cars to install a CAI?
thanks
