The Maxima smoked the Transam on the response time. The terminal speed on the Transam was actually faster.

weve all seen this video...i actually cant remember where i got it, oh thats right cearsar's kickazz website..........if you watch the video closely, it lists both of the cars mods before the race

That's jime ... He has had ( and probably still does) a few very fast Maximas ... but we all know this and priase him greatly, you should be ashemed for not knowing him as a member of this board
That vid is outdated as his best N/A time is now 13.3 @101 I believe. Spend more time in the 1/4 mile forums etc, and look at all the timeslips, get to know the community before posting this and then asking the question "I wonder who this is" Of coruse he's on the org.

V8 rear wheel drive, 2 door sports car vs. V6 front wheel drive, 4 door family car.
To me, the Nitrous just evens it out, resulting in the better driver winning.

American cars all the way? Maybe the guy driving the Maxima will be kind enough to give the trans am driver a ride when his American sled is on the side of the road at 100k miles. Oh, wait, American cars are great, I forgot.

y does the trans am owner have to be a red neck....we arent all small asian people cause we own a japanese car. and spray doesnt make anything equal when it comes to a race. granted jime won but that doesnt make him better then all trans ams, just that one on that day.
im sure many kias and hyundia could walk on maximas and on thier boards they probally sound like u guys.
ohh and a f body is a sports coupe or a muscle car, not a sports car.

OK, for an obviously uneducated (grammar) 23 year old, you need to do some homework. GM is in serious trouble. Is it my fault? They manufacture vehicles with quality and resale issues. Some finance companies won't even finance an Oldsmobile! Yes, I know, they quit making them. Oh, more news! My uncle used to do work for the big three. Buick and Pontiac are going to be with Oldsmobile in a few years. Don't take my word for it. It's coming, already been discussed.
I drive what lasts. I've owned domestics. I've owned German and Japanese. I have family in the car business. I know about resale on domestics, reliability issues, and overall quality. EVERY auto maker has some issue sometime. Toyota had bad V-6's in the mid 90's, Honda had tranny issues. But GM? Maybe there are Maximas that have died early on. How many domestics die young? Better choose your opponent wisely. I didn't say it to start anything, I said it because it's the sad truth. Americans have the technology and means to compete. Sad truth is, we don't compete well at all. The Japanese have taken the car and innovated. It's not my fault. I simply spend my money on a quality product.
Pick your battles, you can't find enough supporting evidence to win this one.

Well for reference. Out of the 50,000+ members, you really do see VERY minimal problems that will strand someone in a maxima.
Put it this way, how many old domestics of the same vintage do you see vs maximas of the same years?

You have been blessed to find the one good one it seems. But then again, I guess it should be praised for lasting 61,400 miles.

The catalytic convertors and mufflers don't wear out, they rust out from lack of use, lol!

IMHO, i think that back in the 80s and possibly early 90s a majority of American car companies went in the whole when competing in the car market agains japanese cars, or anything non american really. During this time period, i think...is when imports started getting their labels as far as higher mileage is concerened when compared with american cars of the same year.
American car companies ARE catching up, and sooner or later we will probly see a time when domestics MIGHT outperform most imports in quality and reliability. To an extent i think we might already be matching up with imports....But most will argue that
I owned a 89 pontiac grand prix before my max and i had NOTHING but problems with it. The POS didnt even make it too 110k miles before the tranny started slipping, head gasket needed replacement, oil leaks everywhere....coolant leaks everywhere....
that car was HELL, i bought my maxima and i beat the ever living $hit out of it, and it keeps coming back for more.
But my whole point is that, yes i believe american cars dont really outperform most imports. But When we first got the maxima in 95, we had to replace the tranny in it at 36k miles! that was about 1k miles AFTER the 35k mile warantee was over. Most people would rag on imports for life if that happened to them, but the fact is, this kinda stuff happens too all kind of cars, regardless of how well you take care of them.
My ex had a old 94 ford taurus that hit over 250k miles without any major problems...i thought that was unheard of, but there are alota people out there with domestics that have been able to accomplish this.
Whether or not the number of people that have reached this mileage in american cars compared to most imports is another story...

For years American car manufacturers did not care how long cars lasted because they could call the shots. However, built-in obsolescence has had to be replaced with a different mindset now in order for these companies to survive or else they would run the risk of going the way of the dodo bird.
