Considering new supsension setup....

Curently i am running on H&R spring with illuminas. the ride quality isnt bad at all, i like it. but the problem is the drop is just too mild for the rims i have. i have 18" rims so the gap is somewhat of a 4x4. recently i have taken interest in maybe swaping out the h&rs for some tein s-techs. how is the ride quality on them in comparison to the h&rs? any suggestions will be much appreciated, but just keep in mind i dont want a really harsh ride. also does anyone think i should just stick with the h&rs? heres a pic of how the gap is now...

thanks in advanced!
-Tom

Your 18" rims are already giving you poor ride quality.
Lower the car more and the ride will get a bit more harsh.

If you want good ride quality, keep the H&R's and get a set of 17's.

honestly with the 18s its not that much worse than when i had 16s, but yeah i know if i wanted really good quality i would have wanted to go with 17s. i went with 18s because thats the only size that was left for these rims and they were what i wanted. will the s-techs make it alot worse or will it be minimal on how much more harsh the ride gets?

im on the s-techs with the illuminas and at one time i had 18" wheels, the ride quality is stiff but not jarring like your going to bite your tongue off, but its quite stiff, but in a sporty way, compared to my friends integra with ground control coils, my cars is riding like a Lexus.

get a body kit and your car will look good, plus you'll keep your smooth ride.

i have s-techs with illuminas. if you really want to drop the car lower, i would recommend stechs. i have ridden in my friends max with sprint and agx's, and while its a similar drop visually to the stechs, the stechs are noticeably less stiff.

OT but, did you do the e55 retrofit yourself? if so i may be pm'ing you with some questions and advice if that's alright. thanks.

I'm not sure, but I thought any drop below 1.5" will void the Illumina warranty, or is that the case with KYB?

Since you want to kill the gap, Just save up and get coilovers instead of having to choose what Suspension to get, incase you change your mind after you get whatever.. Do it right the first time, Get coilovers so you can adjust it to your liking.

@ coilovers if you just want to kill the wheel gap. They will be a little rougher, but they'll ride about the same as S-Techs and they'll handle much better.

In terms of ride quality, what you have is as good as it will get with those rims. Any spring that gives you a lower drop will ride rougher. Lower springs need to be stiffer just to make sure you don't whack the bumpstops all the time.

It's not enough to get smaller rims either. You need lightweight rims, and tires that aren't too heavy. Just shaving 6 or 7 pounds off each wheel will make a big difference.

Also think about chassis stiffening while you're at it. It's fairly cheap. But never forget that if you're going lower, nothing will save you from a rough ride except lighter rims.

go with the coilovers. i have the ksports and with the settings at the softest its very comfortable and still handles much better than stock. i wasnt looking to handle like a race car either though. i wanted a pretty low drop with the ability to have fun on curvy roads and on ramps. check them out. i know doodfood has them too. i am going to lower my car just a littler more.

check out the pictures of mine. i have the 17" 2k2s on there. you can do 18"s with some coilovers, no problem. im actually thinking about putting soime 18" 2k5s on there myself. good luck

im not getting coilovers, i already have illuminas, im only thinkin about changing the spring not the strut. the springs are cheap so its not that big of a deal if i decide to change them.

either stay completly stock rims and suspension wise or go all out. id say get some true coilovers and play with the settings. at least it rides better than shocks + springs.

IMO spending money on springs is the biggest waste of money, unless its sprints or S techs. progress MIGHT qualify
