KS Torque/Purchase Question

well, my 96 Max felt like it was developing a very uneven powerband from about 2k-4k revs. I wasn't sure what it was from since I had not done any mods recently before. so i checked the codes. ahh yes, 0304, Knock Sensor! At least I know what the problem is! so anyway, I started paying attention the the KS threads. I looked at motovate's site on the removal and install. It said that it is sensitive and must be torqued to about 10-12 ft-lbs. but how the heck are you suppossed to get a torque wrench in there? or is this not really as important as it seems?

how tight did you tighten yours and did you have any problems from over-tightening or under-tightening?

also, where is the best place to buy a KS right now? or what is a price that I can pay and know I got a pretty good deal. I don't want to shop around forever; rather I would like to get it within a few days.
is there a good price in the GD??

thanks for any help and for answering any questions that you could.

It's just common sense. Tighten it til you feel some resistance, then add half a turn or so. If you want it perfect, take off the intake manifolds and use a TQ wrench.

I do the same when my KS goes. Use judgment.

I got mine from Bumper to Bumper in Chaska for $112. It is a Nissan part in a Standard motor parts box.
I also have the 12mm flex socket I bought just for the KS, I'll let ya borrow it. Or just come over and I'll do it for ya...it's easy.

take out the intake from the throttle body through the air filter box, you'll be able get a straight line in there, and probably a torque wrench with a long neck. I just did it today and the improvement was noticable. Good Luck!

k, thanks for the help. i just wanted to get this right the first time. my torque wrench does fit fine with the intake out from the throttle body. is it okay to leave the TB open or is it advised to put a rag in there or anything while the filter is off?

The TB plate is closed, nothing will get in.
