Just when I was thinking my car is pretty reliable...
Hey guys,
Haven't really needed to make a new thread in teh past 14k miles till this morning. Woke up with my viper 791xv remote beeping, so I ran outside to see what happened. For some odd reason my trunk keeps on poppoing open by itself. I mean the trunk is open but it keeps on making the "clicking" sound as if I'm holding down the trunk release button. The same thing happened last week when it rained but it stopped after like 10 mins so I thought it was okay. It started back up now, and its been over 25 mins??!?! Is it my alarm? or some relay??
Any solutions pls? Don't wanna dish out 100 bux at the dealer this weekend for something like the trunk ....hehe...
Thanks in advance....

wish i could help, but just thought id comment and say this is certainly very strange...i was laughing when i first saw this post. hope you get it figured out...i would agree with pulling the fuse for a short term fix and maybe call a dealer or mechanic, maybe they have heard of something and you can leech some free info!

Use a multimeter to check the wiring going from the alarm brain to the trunk solenoid or the trunk switch to the trunk solenoid. If this checks out then replaced the trunk solenoid with one that is rated at least 15 lbs. Report back your results.

Hey guys,
Thanks for all the input - I actaully dropped by circuit city becasue I have a friend there who is the installation manager. Anywayz, long story short he checked out the brain with the multimeter, and told me the alarm itself is fine. He had even taken out the trunk relay from the alarm and it was still popping open. He told me that its either the trunk switch that needs to be replaced or the "actuator (not sure exactly what he said)" in the trunk needs to be replaced - something to do w/ the factory wiring for the trunk. I had told him to disconncet the cable running in the trunk to the release for a little bit till I can figure out what to do. My question is - is it expensive to eitehr replace the trunk switch or the device in teh trunk?? Can a regular mechanic that I know do it or is it dealership work?
Chilllin05: I love this alarm man - I've had the 791xv installed now in this car for the past year, and have the older model 790xv in my 2k max. It soo convenient having the remote start in the summer as well as the winter. Would recommend this product with my eyes closed.
Thanks in advance....

If you have a short, the fuse will pop. So its not a short because you haven't mentioned about the fuse. So its either the trunk release switch on the door or the actuator. The actuator is probably expensive especially because that is a dealer item most likely. So check the trunk release switch first. If you are not comfortable with pulling your door panel out, then its best to leave it to professionals.

DEI products are great. i installed python 881xp - its great. the only thing is remembering to leave the car in neutral before remote starting.
as far as the trunk popping, i believe its a negative trigger, and all it would take is bare wire touching anything metal, and that would give the wire the negative pulse it needs to pop the trunk. i would go to who ever installed it to see where they hooked up the relay for the trunk release, beucase thats where there would be exposed wire.
