Mass. inspection Visual Y pipe Check?

Only thing holding me back from installing the Y is the fear of failing inspection. My car is a 1996 so they plugged me in for emission purposes and I passed in Febuarary both safety and emission so i wont even be plugged in next year. My question is if I install the Y pipe will they notice or even look for it if the rest of my exhaust is stock?

What a pain in the you know what having to convert back or pay a fine.

Massachusetts people lend me opinions thanks!

I don't think you'll have a problem. Us Mass peeps should get together, there's actually a lot of Mass people here now.... I'm in central Mass. Just a thought.

Hey, what's up? I'm down in franklin. I just put a budget Y on in early june, then breezed thru inspection. Curiously, i didnt have the emissions portion this year (even though I also have a 96). Could be because my vehicle came from out of state last year and had both safety and emissions. I think we're in good shape though, pretty sure they just do an OBD check for codes for the emissions portion.

Sweet, I'll put a post in the International section. Check there and reply if the date is good for you, if not, suggest a date that is good for you, so we can get a bunch of together. Spread the word to any other Mass people you run in to.

live in Swansea, MA also thinking about doing a Budget Y-pipe not worried either, because people in CA have harder emissions then us and they never really talk about failing because of the precats missing. just my opinion

I have a Budget y-pipe and live in British Columbia. I haven't taken my car through emissions yet, but will be in the next couple of months. Some local .orgers have passed emissions with the Budget y. The only visual check of the exhaust system is holding a mirror on a long handle and checking for existence of a catalytic convertor and nothing else. You could have a hole in your muffler and still pass emissions where I'm from and I understand a hole in the muffler might in fact help, lol!

Brockton, MA here. Passed inspection without a problem with a Cattman Y. Nothing to worry about. Just make sure the car's warmed up.

MA inspection should be no problem as long as the car is warmed up.. Just ask around for a shop that is more laid back than another inspection place. You know how some garages are "*****" about inspections and will fail u for anything. While others will just honk your horn..put on the e-brake..and plug you into the emissions machine. Ask some friends or for others on the ORG about which shops are pretty laid-back when it comes to inspecting cars..it could be worth the drive!
