If the engine is running to rich or to lean you will get a check engine light with the corresponding code.

You can also take your spark plugs out and look at the tips to determine how the engine is running.

if you get a JWT doesn't it keep your F/A at like a 13.0-13.5 when at WOT?

If your car is running in good condition, chances are its not running too rich or lean.
