Spark Plugs

Spark Plugs

Monday, I will go get spark plugs. I need to know whats the difference or your thoughts between the spark plugs at the dealer (which i was at earlier today and they told me $15.50 / spark plug) and NGK Copper or Platniums (which everyone here obviously has from what ive read, Copper). I will be replacing all 6. What brand are the spark plugs that the dealer sells ? Are those the NGK ? plz enlighten me. Please let me hear your thoughts on which I should purchase and the place where I should get them from also, like AutoZone, Murrays, etc...(could be different depending on location)

You obviously haven't scrolled back to look for spark plug threads. The plugs the dealer will sell you are NGK laser platinums, which are what came with the car from the factory. You can buy them cheaper on-line or at auto parts stores, but I will let others weigh in on that as I live in Canada. The other alternative is NGK coppers which you probably can't get at the dealer. They cost about 1/5 what the platinums cost, but last 1/2 as long.

Use one or the other, but no other manufacturer's plugs should go in the Maxima, ie. forget about Bosch!

go to local auto store. buy 6 BKR5E11. Install and enjoy. Shouldnt cost more than $10 for all 6.

Just opened up near Belmont/Central: http://www.advanceautoparts.com/engl...&refer=locator Went there yesterday and they were $1.58x6=$9.48 (NGK Copper V-Power)

From what I've read, NGK coppers, which are cheaper, give you a colder spark than the plats.

I have run the coppers plenty....but be careful to check them often.....they don't last as long as most would think. Some say about 30k miles......maybe sometimes....but if you run your max hard, they will not even last that long.

coppers are switched out at 30k, plats at 60k.

They are really cheap $24 shipped for 6 Platinums, $10 each at autoparts. I need some asap but afraid may be used or fake; let's wait to see if somebody bought them and they are real. Who knows. I may buy the copper ones today as per service engine soon light has been on for few days and do not know if can wait until get these ones. Let us know if you get them and look original.

Thank you for the information. I just went to Advance and got the NGK 6953 (BKRSE-11) V-power plug $1.68 each; hope they are the right ones/copper. I tought were gold/brown/copper color but are silver. I suspected the ebay ones were too good to be true, emailed guy asking him part # and never answered.

it should come at .44 gap. factory spec is .35-.44

It takes 10 seconds to check/gap a plug - just do it for every plug, why not just double check (even if they are *supposed* to be pre-gapped at the factory)?

i just installed the coppers and everything is running fine for now, No more 0701 error code ( multiple cylinder misfire). But i still have my rough idle when the engine is warm.
Ill go get some cleaner for the throttle body and clean it. BTW, what should it be called, throttle body cleaner ?

Go to PepBoys and buy CRC brand intake cleaner (red can) - its safe for the coating on the inside of the TB.

yesterday , i was at advanced auto parts, and i asked the personnel how much throttle body cleaner was. He directed me to something called like " Carb and Choke cleaner?" Something like that, cant quite remember. It was in a red can as well. Cost was $1.68/ can. Does that sound right ?

Yes. Its the same thing. Purchase that and Clean the TB or IACV with it.

Since you have a 99, it could be your coil packs, but clean the throttle body and IACV first

ok, so far this is what ive done so far,
-New spark plugs
-cleaned throttle body
the idle , is i have to say, is a bit better, but i have already messed around with the idle speed (black screw). Still i will clean the IACV next and check the PCV valve.
