Best Springs/Shocks Combo?

My KYB's are blown which are paired up with Maxspeeds. Need to start thinking about new spring/strut combo. Haven't been here for a while so bear with me.

What is the most recommended combo's out there? I liked my KYB's but I'm sure there are better struts out there now. Tein S-Tech springs seem promising paired up with Tokico Illuminas. But what do you guys think?

Progress/H&R/Maxspeed/Htechs pared up with Illunimas will ride the best

Stechs and Illuminas will ride decent.

Sprint springs are stiff no matter what.

hm... I do want more of a drop than what the Maxspeeds provide. H-Techs seem very similar to Maxspeeds. Progress springs don't look too bad though.

I have tokico illuminas paired with their own springs. i cant compare them with any other since this is my first setup, but i like the ride. the suspension feels sporty and theres no body lean in the corners.

Ksport or D2 coilovers for drop, adjustability, and best handling

Tein coilovers for drop and proven reliability

Eibach/Illumina for best balance of ride and handling

i'm goin for a good drop and adjustable struts, so i will soon have Tein S-Techs and Illuminas. ('soon have them' as in i've got my car jacked up, but can't get those two damn bolts by the control arm off! craftsman better follow up on their lifetime warranty because i broke a socket! i think i'm gonna give up for tonight. i can't get those damn things to budge at all and i think if i keep trying i'm gonna strip them... any advice at all? maybe i'll just go to some station/garage and have them loosen them really quick. is that the best idea?)

Liquid Wrench is your friend. Douse the bolts in it, lightly tapping them periodically with a hammer, and wait a while.

If you don't have air tools, you need two long and rigid socket wrenches. Get one wrench on the bolt and one on the nut and twist them both at the same time. Stick small pipe sections on each wrench to extend them if you need to.

If that doesn't work, then go to a shop.

hmm, I have been using Liquid Wrench, so I guess I'll just wait a lil bit more. Also, the bolt and nut seem to be different sizes. The bolt is 17mm, I believe. can you clue me in on the size of the nut? I'm guessin 19mm, so maybe I'll just make a quick Home Depot run and get a 19mm long socket.

illuminas are a step up from agx's. Both adjustable.

Illuminas are reputed to ride smoother than AGXs. Performance is similar.

I would strongly recommend against Tokico Blues unless you're really on a budget or don't care much about ride quality. They're OEM replacement shocks that aren't really designed to control aftermarket springs very well.

blues are stiffer, and have a different valving than the OEM tokicos. but still ppl have issues with them.

illuminas ride great.

I have agx set on 2f/1r... any stiffer an the rides sux. most springs dont need any more dampening. i know the 4 springs i have sure dont need more.

I have eibach prokit springs, paired with tokicoill.struts. set on 3 all the way around and they ride like stock and handle like a dream.

86maxima96 did you install your suspension yet? how is it?

and guys, say I want to save money and stick with my maxspeed springs, is it harmless? or do springs wear out as much as the struts?

Anyone have the Illuminas and I guess the matching Tokico springs from Custom Maxima?? That sounds like a good deal, however I would prefer H&R's.

do oem struts last longer than aftermarket?

'cause if i plan on selling the car within the next 4-5 years I think it's best selling it with all OEM parts included, unless the buyer is a Maxima enthusiast.

Depends.

OEM struts on stock springs should last about the same as OEM replacement struts (KYB GR-2, Tokico Blue). OEM struts with aftermarket springs will blow out faster than you can think, whereas OEM replacement struts might last a little longer (but not much) and good aftermarket struts will last MUCH longer.

actually, I was able to install the front just fine, then my KYB boots finally came so I had to redo the entire install, but that was fine. i love just workin on stuff like that. but if i had to do it a third time...i dunno. i might start throwin wrenches . but anyway, I got the front done and I LOVE the drop with S-TECHS!!!! I kissed my car! It is a nice aggressive stance, yet not drastic and on the ground. So then I went to jack up the rear and tried to loosen the bolt at the bottom of the shock and then I realized that the bolt was also spinning even though it should be held in there by some 'U' shaped brace so that it will self tighten. Am I correct in thinking this? so, now the nut is rounded off a bit and I have to take it to a friend of a friend who was a Honda Tech for 20 some years. he has all the tools and everything. I just want him to loosen the nuts on both side. is there any other way to do this?

I'll post pics when I get it dropped fully. Until then, I'm enjoyin the Gangsta Lean!
