PLZ LOOK: proof on passing emissions with a aftermarket y-pipe
PLZ LOOK: proof on passing emissions with a aftermarket y-pipe
i think that this would help out alot of us looking to do an y-pipe. they say that the pre cats are just there for warm up purposes but some of us like my self are double guessing. is there a way some can post up an emissions report that confirms that their car passed with using an y-pipe. Especially someone from CA and Ma because we have the hardest emissions testing in the country. Pluss this would make a good sticky whitch would help out with these dumb y-pipe questions. Neal

Some pass, some don't. Those who have usually driven their car around for 30 min before going for the smog check and did not shut their engine off as they wait for the smog inspector, have passed. Some that did this still didn't pass. It's one of those things. That is why it is always best to keep your stock y-pipe just in case you don't pass smog, even after a few attempts, with the aftermarket one. That would be your last resort. BTW, this info is in the stickies.
I dunno anymore.
I passed ok the first year with a y-pipe...not as good as before.
The 2nd year I passed barely...the guy had to run it twice. Some limit was 250, he ran it first at 251, and literally 249 the 2nd time.
Both years, I kept the car running before the test atleast 30 mins.
I got an EGR code going tho, maybe thats whats causing it, but I've tried cleaned every last orifice, as well has getting a new EGR solenoid. Guess maybe I should try a new EGR valve.
Your mileage may vary.
Still got my original y-pipe ready for transplant tho. Tho I still need to weld the "cracks" in the original one.
