Rear suspension problem

My 99 GLE started making some weird suspension noises last week. It's almost like a creaking when I go over bumps. This morning I noticed that it's getting worse since now I have some wobble in the rear end when I go over a bump (feels like the car almost shakes from left to right). The ride sucks now and I can feel even the smallest bumps. I really suck at suspension and I'm a cheap *** too (good combination for suspension work). I don't want to replace anything more than I have to but I don't know what to look for when I get it all apart.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Spencer

check and make sure you lugs arent lose. You just hear it going over bump, not diving on roads etc?

I have the same left/right wobbly feeling on mine too. I thought when i replaced my blown struts with my tokico's/s-techs, it would help, but it didn't much.

Thanks, lug nuts was the first thing I checked and they're all nice and tight. Initially I only heard it going over bumps but as of this morning I can hear it almost anytime I drive. It seems to get better when I have about a half tank of gas in the car. Any more or less and it's pretty noisy.

Did you replace anything other than the struts? I was sort of leaning to struts but now I'm even more confused

Usually a creaking problem like that sounds like it might be the reat stabilizer links. Theyre fairly cheap and very easy to do. Just take it to a deealer to get it dfiagnosed and do the work yourself...

If your Maxima makes noise and wobbles when you go over bumps, you might need some tie rods; they cost around $150 installed. I had that same problem, and a mechanic told me about tie rods. As of today, I don't have that problem!
