roll cages

any maxima guys out there with some sort of roll cage setup? A guy I know is making, powder coating and installing custom cages for $100 a point and I was debating on this....I know its kinda odd having a large family sedan with a roll cage, and the added weight wont be great, but the increased stiffness in the chassis would be nice esp. with all the autocross/road racing I do. You think it would be a better option like this:
http://www.pegasusautoracing.com/big....asp?RecId=640
or like this:

Before I commit to anything....does anyone know exactly if there are any bolt on locations I could use on the maxima....or if its all done by welding, where it all attaches to and what kind of interior work must be done?
Thanks

What kind of materials and welding is this guy using to do it for $100?

He said $100 per point... i.e. a 10 point cage would be $1000, etc. But that's still pretty cheap for a cage.

Anyways there is only 1 max with a cage on this board that I know of and it's i30krab, and I wouldn't be surprised if he's the only one that has one. Mardigras will probably have one soon though assuming his track makes you stick by the rules.

For your other question about points to bolt it to... well since there's only one guy with a cage there's only one guy to ask, but he's not on here very much it seems.

I don't know how much AutoX you do but be aware a cage is going to bump you out of whatever class you are likely to be in, and put you in a class where you'll never be able to compete with your competition. It would be nice to have though for the road course.

As far as stiffening goes though, a cheaper route would bue WSP SFCs. Lots of people have those, I had them on my old car, and they are awesome. Do a search if you want more info on those.

A cage or roll bars?? I30krab has roll bars. 10 point will be an overkill unless you are road race. If you want some protection during roll over or just stiffen up the chasis...a 6 point roll bars will do.

Here's an interesting article on building a roll cage, in this case for an Infiniti G20 (Primera).

thanks guys. I'm lookin more along the lines of a 6 point roll "bars" like 1MAX2NV is talkin about I guess. I deffinitly do a lot more road racing, not so much auto-x and I already have the stage I warpspeed SFC's, with a custom "stage II" setup. Thanks for the article MaxKlinger. I just want to stiffen up the chassis even more and avoid the risk of rollin the car while I'm strapped in a 5 point harness...

I thought i30krab had a full cage? I just was remembering some picture that I thought I saw a while back with his cage going into the dash (holes cut around the cage) etc, I could very well be wrong though. It was quite a while ago.

Mardigrasmax will only need a 6-point roll bar, not a full cage. The 6 pt. is for cars running 11.49 to 10.00 in the 1/4 mile. 9.99 and under and you need a roll cage.

You too might need a 6 point eventually Neal.

You migt want to check and see what Autopower has. They have a good selection of bolt-in cages. I think theyhave some roll bars that allow removal of the rear diagonals for easy rear seat access. Also, check out Kirk Racing in Alabama, I believe. WhenI raced in SCCA-IT I put a Kirk weld-in cage in my CRX. It fit perfectly.
