cleaned my MAF and.... =T

it's nothing horrible, but it worries me. anyway i cleaned it with rubbing alcohol and dried it off with a can of compressed air for electronics. I used an eye dropper to drop alcohol one by one onto the wire and surrounding areas. i waited 15 minutes and made sure everything inside was dry. All bolts and gaskets cleaned and clamps put onto the airbox. // well now my car's idle is really wild. when at about quarter throttle it feels like my car is moving side to side. i don't know if it be related, but can anyone shine some light?

I didnt know you could clean your MAF with Alcohol

Unless I missed that day in class, your not suppost to clean your maf, let alone with some type of acid solution. What was your car doing that made you fee like you should clean your MAF:conafused:

You're not supposed to use alchool to clean MAF, only water and a cue tip. Never use compressed air too, it's too hard for the element of the MAF.

Water? as in H20? Why is that not a good idea?

Actually, I was being sarcastic... water and electrical components don't play nice. I would recommend using air intake cleaner over anything else.

I cleaned my xtra MAF with alcohol and a Q-tip to see how dirty it was. The Q-tip did take some stuff off. No problems so far (it is still in the car).

I would NEVER Clean the MAF....Big No No...looks like you need to go buy a replacement

Those little sensors on the MAF are really sensative to anything...you most likely ruined one of them and now its not reading correctly

i've been reading that people either used denatured alcohol (ronin22357) and even TB cleaner (njmaxseltd). I used rubbing alcohol 70%, so in essense the denatured alcohol is a lot stronger and would've done damage to the maf. The only reason i didn't use TB cleaner is that the can that i have just shoots out a bit strong. It would have definitely broken the wire and everything else inside the maf. Hopefully its just a bit of dust in the maf and a couple of WOT will burn it up

I wonder if the solutions and swabs used for cleaning high-end digital camera sensors might be the trick. Now THOSE are some sensitive sensors.

never use compressed air. and you can clean a maf sensor, with a q-tip and rubbing alcohol. since the alcohol dries without leaving residue. water on the other hand is bad for electronics. just dont clean the maf sensors that have the burn off features.

How about shooting the brake cleaner on the q-tip. I know most of it will end up on the ground but the q-tip will capture some. Why would you hit the entire MAF with brake cleaner anyway.

BTW, a new MAF is around $350. Have fun.

Just get one from a junkyard. I recently got one off a '99 for $50 which included expedited shipping. =)

When i talk about using water to clean the MAF is you put the q-tip in water, remove the excedent and clean the element.

I know that water is better than any other things by experience. I use to work in that as a job...

I wouldn't recomend touching the little wires inside the maf with anything. I clean my maf with rubbing alcohol all day long. I poor the bottle right in there and let it run through and drip dry. No problems ever.
If you cleaned it with a qtip isn't there a posibility that you could get some of the cotton stuck on the wire. I used q tips but didn't touch the wire (didn't say that earlier
