CV Boot Estimates

I saw my pass. side cv boot is ripped. I called 2 stealerships around here, they both said about $220 to put a new boot on! That seems high to me. Is this a reasonable price? Do any of the chain places like midas, firestone, etc do cv boot replacement?

$220 for the boot is a rip even if it includes and alignment. You can get the whole shaft replaced for cheaper.

dealerships don't do JUST the CV boots anymore. They order the whole halfshaft and pop them in within 15 mins. and send you on your way. I'm not sure if their are any pressed bearings like my camry's pass side. Most of the its simple stuff. Take off wheel, remove cotter pin and bolt. Pull the whole brake assembly to the side and then yank the half shaft out. Put the new on in and put back everything. You should be good to go. My halfshafts for my camry ran about $76 each from Napa. Life time warranty and everything.

well a good 80% of the time thats how you swap out FWD halfshafts. Don't quote me on it. I doubt you would run into any issues. You gotta align the teeth at the end that goes into the tranny. Basiclly thats it just add a few details in there and your set. Pick up a haynes/chilton manual if you want ease of mind. Or do what i do instead of buying them hit up autozone and read it thru right then and there just to make sure their aren't anymore bumps in the road.

I went with the Autozone replacement about a year and a half ago. It's only $60 and it has a lifetime warranty. Buy it and put it in yourself, it's really not that hard to do. I had never replaced one before and it probably took me about 2 hours from start to finish, taking my time. http://www.motorvate.ca/mvp.php/401 is what I used to guide me

Advance Auto Parts had the whole shaft for $100 plus a $40 core so it comes out to be $60. My mechanic charges $50 per side. Some mechanics won't even bother to replace the boot since it's so much easier to replace the whole thing.
