COMPLETELY reset ECU

i know how to play with the ECU with the screwdriver to get the ECU codes by turning that screw on the ecu, is there anyway to fully reset the ECU? i tried search i kept getting ECU reset instructions for 02 and up maximas which i believe are drive by wire, which wouldnt apply to my 96.

i just want to FULLY reset my ECU. would anyone like to help me out with this question?

Disconnecting the battery for a long period of time may erase stored operating parameters.

From the Haynes shop manual:
"Caution: Do not disconnect the battery from the vehicle to clear the codes. This will erase stored operating parameters from the memory and cause the engine to run rough for a period of time while the computer relearns the information."

There is never a reason or need to do anything but clear stored error codes from your car's ECU.

because if you clear other things, your ecu will have to relearn all of the normal operating parameters, like timing advance, etc. Trust me, it will run a bit rough for up to 300 miles as it readjusts itself.

Just clear the codes unless you are gluten for punishment.

the screwdriver trick will reset the ecu. I had a CEL on my girlfriends car (misfire). Changed the sparks (the cause of it) and when her battery died, it cleared the CEL for me.

Or If you got to autozone or advanced auto parts, with their scanner, I believe that can also reset the ecu also.

I thought to reset the ECU you just turn the ecu screw From Left to Right and back 3 times .. should get the 5 5 flash for the no errors until the errors resurface if you haven't fixed the fault.

the easiest way to reset the ECU is besides disconnecting the battery to use a screwdriver on the diagnostic switch on the ECM turning it all the war right wait 2 seconds turn left and repeat.turn off the ignition and start it again.
