Knocking or Clunking from transmission
Knocking or Clunking from transmission
When I am driving I hear a knocking/clunking noise from the tranny. It only happens when the car is in gear and moving. When the clutch is in or when I rev up the motor you can not hear it. Mostly only when hitting the gas. I jacked up the car today and let the wheels spin freely and hear it coming from the tranny. My car is a 5 speed with 157,000 miles on it. The clutch is getting worn and needs to be replaced in less than 5,000 miles. Does anyone know what this could be?
you know I've had this same noise for quite some time, never diagnosed the problem, but my clutch and tranny will be trashed once the proper funds are available. I want to say it might be in the linkage but I never jacked up my car to find out. Sadly I've been riding like this for about a year now.
For me it occurs a fairly low speed and pretty much only when shifting into 2nd, sometimes 3rd if the rpms are low enough.

I have something similar, but I can hear it best during clutch engagement...i.e. when starting from a stop, or 1->2 shift..not so much at other times. My noise is coming from front right, almost sure of that.
My mechanic has a brief look, said it's most likely a motor mount. Will get it looked at in more detail next week probably.

I have the same noise. I was also at the my mechanic today. He thinks maybe a tranny rebuild is required. Clutch is fine, engages well, but mild grind type noise from stop... same as AceO. 97 GXE 138000 KM.
Please keep informed.
