A/c
A/c
Hey My max need a refil on the A/C but i don't know what to get ?
What exactly do i need ? Because i saw some 3-4 different type of cans on autozone and they told me to check my compressor , but i dunno what i am looking for?

make sure to check for leaks, as you have some. One can should be more than enough. Best way to avoid overfilling is stick an accurater thermometer in the vent, with windows rolled down, AC on full and recircle, and have an assistant monitor the temp. Should get to about 40 degrees below ambient, or about 45-50 degrees, once it gets there, stop filling!
I did a refill this weekend. I picked up a 19oz can of Measure and Charge, made by interdynamics. I picked this one because it was the only one that came with a gauge. A set of gauges alone was $50. Pep boys charges $29.99, but target has it for $19.99. Make sure the clear plastic face is still on the gauge (as I saw a unit without the plastic).
On my 1996 SE, if you stand in front of the car, on the left side you see a metal hose come out of the firewall and then it goes into the ac compressor near the radiator. On this hose, you will see a port with a light-green cap. The cap is really obviously at the top of the engine compartment. Turn on the car, run the AC at max (I turned fan on 4, hit AC and recirculate), let it run for a minute, took off the cap, and attached the gauge. On my car, with 136K on it, the needle was right between low and filled (25? psi).
I didn't use the refill just yet. When I was at pep boys, I found a can of R-134a Auto Air Conditioner “Direct Charge” Tune Up , an a/c booster/oil/sealant/cleaner that you just empty into the a/c system, and it fills in imperfections, and "renews" the system. Just adding the tune-up bottle seems to have lowered the temperature, but the gauge still shows about 25 psi. I'll drive around, see how the a/c works, and then I'll add the actual refrigerant later this week.
Here's a pic I borrowed from NissanPerformanceMag.com, and tagged with the location of the port:

I seem to have a weak compressor because my AC is fully charged and it gets cool when I am cruising, but as soon as I hit a red light and come to a stop, the air suddenly becomes warm. Anyway to fix this problem? Estimates in cost? Thanks

do not do it this way. you need a manifold gauge set to accuratly recharge a a/c system.

For me it's not that it's warm, it's just not cold anymore. Sucks in stop and go traffic.
i feel my AC isn't as strong as its suppose to be. I mean it cools and what not, but its after a while. I have climate control and if its set up auto 65* it still and recycle air. it does take like 10-15 mins to get it to feel cool. I think a simple evac and recharge would do the trick.
For you guys who want to top off. A bottle is like 20$-50$ of like 12-16 oz. A evac and recharge done at a small shop would be like $80 or so. Consider spending a little extra money for better performance. Becuase if your low on R-134a, that means there is a leak or something. A leak would be that oxygen has gotten into the system. And oxygen in the system isn't what you want in there. If you top the system off the oxygen will still be in there. But a evac and recharge, will remove all the stuff and give you fresh R-134a. w/ worrying about it blowing up on you as well. Oh and on top of that if you still aint cold. then now you know for a fact that you have a leak. As compared to you filling it yourself, you dont know if you did it wrong or what.

I seem to have the same problem. I Completely recharched my ac system by a professional last summer. It was fine after . But this summer around the a/c doesn't seem to cool as it should. The air coming out is cold but its not frezzing. Even after driving with it on for 30 minutes, it never seems to get so cold that I have to turn it down. I was told by a mechanic that it could be my compressor......but i dont know....any suggestions would be greatly appreciated??
