5spd swap complete

In four hours, BlackBIRDVQ converted my car to a 5spd. There were a total of eight Midwest Maximas at my house as the swap went down. Very fun time. I went with a 2000 transmission, 5th gen clutch kit and SS clutch lines. Anyone doing this swap should have air tools, esp. a high torque impact gun.

Junkyard but it might as well have been new. 35K on it and it was immaculately clean. I could have done surgery on it, it was so clean.

Hey. I actually did mine yesterday as well....took us a little longer since we were only two people (about 10 hours) but my car isn't starting now. I wanted to know if You could check with you frineds who helped you and ask why my car may not be starting. To give you a quick run down.....everything is up and the only thing I haven't done yet is fill the master cylinder with fluid and blled the hydraulic line. The car cranks but its not turning over. The engine was fine before we did the swap so we were thinking that it was something electrical. Please let me know what they think. I really want to get my car moving. Thanks. Mike.

We checked and checked. I guess the only thing left to do is check it again. I mean the motor was fine before the swap so I will further investigate today. And for all those who are wondering yes we checked the crank position sensor and it is connected so I don't know. BUt we do think its electrical. Just time to find the problem. Mike.

Yeah, decided LSD wasn't worth the hassle of tracking down and paying a premium for.

If I had my Rotary lift and didn't forget my 14mm swivel socket (dooh) the job woulda went even quicker. But for a garage job everything is cool. Clutch pedal bolt was missing I guess what Ty is telling me, they didn't see it missing and thats why the clutch wasn't engagin right. But he tells me shes got some cojones now and everything is tight- 1 day to fully drivable 100% functional swap.

$400 for all the little parts (except the clutch pedal support bracket and shifter bushing) from Maximum Tuning

$850 for a 00 trans w/ 35K on it from a salvage yard

$189 for a new 5th gen clutch kit from an org member

One time thing, I think. Jeff had a few parts cars. However, he failed to send me the clutch pedal support bracket. Also, the shifter bushing was sawed off so we had to ghetto rig the shifter. I have a polyurethane bushing coming from Top Element Tuning.

hey tht, glad to hear it went well. do you have a 5spd ecu in? my car has been running fine since the swap but my OD light blinks upon start up and my ABS light comes on (but i think i figured out why). i know i know, i haven't gotten the chance to take pics yet but i'll post up when i get the chance. also, did you wire the P/N switch and the cruise control to the clutch pedal?

I have an auto TS ECU. I was supposed to have a 96 5spd ECU but the seller sent me a 99. My OD light also blinks, no biggie. I did not wire the P/N switch so I do not have cruise control. I also did not wire the reverse lights as my connectors are a little different than what Hal described on his site (seven wires instead of eight).

isn't it really hard to break? i'm hoping the axles i put in didn't have abs rings on them, in which case i'll just transfer the rings from my old axles.

You went 5spd to auto??? Sorry, that boggles my mind. I drove around today and loved every second of it (even the stalling). I hated my automatic slushbox because it hated to downshift. In my mind, it's wasteful to be making a fair bit of power and not be able to exercise it.

well, i just finished my 5spd swap TODAY....wow, took me about 4 days with dissasembly from my parts car and assembly into mine. Definitely worth it, and you learn alot about your car. I had 2-3 friends helping me, but i finished the job myself. There is some whining in 1st gear, but it's tolerable, and i still need to wire the backup light and speed sensor and swap the 5spd ecu in. Definitely worth it IMO. Total cost for me was 900 bux, i bought a parts car from an .org member, PapaSmurf.

Wow, it was a popular week for swaps. I feel real bad for that guy up there with the starting problem. I hope you get it fixed, your car is very clean.
