Check out the value of your car:

I think $19,500 is a little steep.

For almost $19.5K CDN? That seems reasonable! But does that include 15% tax?? Even then..its not that bad!

For our American neighbours, using a rate of $1 CDN = $0.65US, the price would be approx. $13K US.

You know what sucks about this whole exchange rate? You guys call the WRX so cheap cause its around $25K US, in CDN money its around $37K CDN, that's a whole lot a money...doesn't sound so cheap anymore now does it?

My other question still didnt get answered... are there any problems or recalls i should be aware of before i buy this car? My mx6 gave me a lot of problems such as the distributor, calipers and tranny so i just wanna make sure the 97 maxima is a sound mechanical car... also what should i have the dealer change at 60 000km? thnx again...

I had a recall on my 96 for some O2 sensors but not sure if it applies to the 97's.

There are no recalls on the 97 Maxima. There are TSB's though, but that doesn't mean your car will have the problem.

i think the '97 were pretty good in general and if something is/does go wrong, it'd be an isolated case and not something widely known... haven't had any problems with my '97 SE 5sp with 131,000+ miles...

just noticed i have a leak in the transmission neutral/reverse switch area and the a/c doesn't blow as cold as i like, but that's it for me... oh, and a front oxygen sensor... but these are supposed to be changed some cars around 100k anyway...

I know that the SE has a tighter suspension (polyurethane bushings and that sort of thing) and usually comes with the 16inch wheels. The SE also comes with the painted door handles and window trim.

GXE is base, SE is the 'sport' model, GLE is the top of the line...

Depending on year, the only real factory options for the GLE were heated seats and ABS brakes.

The SE could actually be optioned up to the same level at the GLE and end up costing more. It had the 16" wheels, slightly firmer springs (i think like 50lbs more per side at the front), white faced gauges, body colored door handles, window trim, and grill, and a rear spoiler.

The SE with the auto and GLE had the electronically controlled hydraulic engine mount, whereas the electronicalliy controlled engine mount on the GXE wasn't available. The SE and GXE had black or interior trim pieces matching the trim, whereas, the GLE had the faux wood trim. The Bose sound systemm, sunroof, automatic climate control system, leather, and automatic transmission were standard on the GLE, but optional on the SE. That's all I could think of for now...
