The new tails

Hey has anyone ordered a set of those new red/clear tails for the 95/96 maximas. What do you think of them and how do they fit. You think we will have any problems with water leaks. Please let me know. Thanks richard

Which ones are you talking about? Link .. ?

I made my own from the all outer clears, no leaks ... since it's essentially stock with a different color lens. Same goes for the fitment ... I've had them for about 3 years give or take, since I have a bad memory ...

I really like them, it makes the rear-end more modern looking with its crystal-clear reflectors. I just wish they were available when I had my 4th gen

Yeah I bought them and had some serious fitment problems. They are getting another batch and they are supposed to be fixed. As far as they look like crap I really liked them at first and I don't like them as much now. I would rather have David L's but oh well. They look good but there is something about them that doesn't go but they are definitly better then the amber.

They fit like ****, I would've just taken a pair of stock tails off a max from a junkyard if I could go back.

If they didn't have any issues I would regret having done the '99 trunk swap.

when will the B*tches from altezza come to their senses and start cranking out GEN II's for 95/96 instead of wasting time putting LEDS on GEN I's and calling them GEN III's!!! so frustrating.

I like mine. Yes they had fitment issues but it only took around an hour of my time to get them to fit perfect. Now they look really great and I get a lot of compliments on them.

That picture alone shows how ugly they are, they look photochopped on there. They are too bright and stick out too much, all I can see is the fugly taillights on that rear. But hey, they are "modern!"
But my 96 is gone and I now have a 97 so I get access to real red/clears. Although I did finally find David Ls but only had them less than a month.

try to find David L's, they were, and are, by far the best. CE's are nasty looking, might as well go with the "rice boy" license plate while you are at it. And for the record, 97-99 clears look ugly too, but that is probably because I don't like their stock tails either. Looks like the red is trying to squash the white.

That's why I'm happy with the old school tails (All Clears painted candy red trans. on the bottom)

95/96 red clears

I don't know what all the crying is about, but all you need to do is remove one screw on two of the four lights, and shave down the plastic a little. If you like working on your car, it has a difficulty rating of "zero". I have them and so far no leaks, and they look great.

That's not the point, if you spend $150-200 on tail lights, they damn well better fit. And maybe not everybody likes working on their car, otherwise there would be no complaints. And that's irrelivant to the thread anyway. Read it, he asked how they fit, and people responded "they don't fit well", or "I had fitment problems".

I like the way they look, but I hate the way the 1st batch fits. Fitment on the first batch requires shaving down some plastic nubs. Also, the weather-stripping around the edges is very flimsy and uses terrible glue that barely holds. Yes, some water enters the trunk in very heavy rain.

According to CE, the next batch will fit well, but I doubt that the weather stripping will be any different. Here's some before and after pics. Ignore the fact that my rear bumper looks like crap (needs some touch-up paint...). Car was very dirty in the pic with the new tails, so take that into acct too.

The first batch of the CE tails had major issues. CE have taken measures in correcting these and the 2nd batch is due to arrive soon. Almost all who have gotten the 1st batch are entitled to swap theirs with the new and improved ones from the 2nd batch. Go here to know more, any ongoing and future developments regarding this is in the thread.
