280$ for cat back w/ magnaflow muffler

Just called muffler shop couple blocks from my house.
They said they will make full SS mendrel bent 2.5" cat back for 280$ with labor and magnaflow muffler. Tax included!! What do you think?

If you want performance, don't get it. If you want sound .. get it ... IMO, any aftermarket cat-back on a Maxima sounds ricey... but that's just IMO ..

I would save my $280, get a y-pipe if I didn't already have one ... or a 00VI ...

It's a good price for the material they're using and mandrel bent but not wroth it, you could get a non mandrel bent Aluminized one for less and still have the same sound/performance ......... with tax

Well if you need it get it ...

It will be loud and annoying if they don't use a resonator... I had a magnaflow, and it soudned w/ no resonator.

I:

The greddy sp2 and apexi WS catbacks are almost as quiet as stock.

Nmex is right; throw a resonator on it.

Hold on, what shop in Chicago does mandrel bending? I strongly suggest that you stay away from Magnaflow without a resonator.

Strange b/c on my 03, I have headers, nothing more, and it sounds next to stock .. very weird.

Anyway, point of this thread is not the way headers sound, but better yet if that's a good price for that set-up.

Yes it is, but get a resonator with it ...

It only sounds ricey with those unequal-length cheap-O Y-pipes that people rave about

The best setup would be a 2.5" b-pipe and then stock muffler IMHO. I've yet to hear a good aftermarket muffler for the Max in person. Greddy SP1 is too loud, dynomax too loud and other random junk - too loud.

I doubt they do the bending there. They probably just have different SS mandrel bends and can piece anything you need together. You would need 4 different bends to do a catback for a 4th gen. $225 seems kinda on the cheap for that.

I'm gonna call bull**** on this so fast it's not even funny. You have headers, great, that doesn't really matter if you have no resonator and a rice can like Megan.

He's talking about Dino's Muffler. I've dealt with them hundreds of times and they are great people. I DOUBT he told you they do mandrel bends though. I've asked them before and everytime they say that mandrel bending is available anywhere around here. Plus they have a crapload of crush bent tubing on the walls of the shop, none is mandrel.

A buddy of mine that has a 3" exhaust, no cat or resonator with a Magnaflow on his G20, its loud but sounds very good. He aslo has a SR20DET so thats where the nice sound come from. On Maximas, no aftermarket muffler really sounds good to me. The only exhaust that I thought sounded nice was Ceasar's. I have heard a lot of good things about Dynomax Super Turbo mufflers but I have yet to hear on in person or on a video.
