Fuel Leaking out when pumping gas?

I drive a 95 GXE Auto w/ 323,000km (so around 201,000miles)

When pumping gas some of the gas leeks out into the wheel well and drips on the gound. It never did this before, just started today.

I know it's leaking somewhere near the begining of the piping that takes the gas to the tank, most likely where it connects to the inlet on the outside of the car.

I've tried it twice at two diffent pumps at the shell station.

Anyone else experenience anything like this. It's not much gas, but I still don't want it leaking out.

Oh yeah, and it doesn't leak out when i drive.

Thanx?

Well yes I know I obviously havta get it fixed, but I was wondering if anyone has experienced anything like this.

I would prefer to do it myself, and could use some guidance.

The guidence I would give, and probably every body on here would give, would be to just start taking things apart till you find the leaky hose and then fix it.....you can get under the car while your NOT pumping gas in and look for a Gapeing hole..I dont know how much is leaking out so i cant tell you the size of the hole to look for ??

Probably just a leaky connection at one of the hoses...not a big deal

As Matt already said, get under the car and look at the filler neck - its either rusted or loose or both.

Mabye throw some uv dye in the gas? i dont think they make it for gas but i dont think it will hurt anything in moderation. Then look for the leak.

Also just out of curosity is this car on its original tranny?

Yes tranny is entirely original, pretty much every part of the car is.

Except for like filters, fluids, brakes, etc.

Mine used to do that, and it turned out to be the gas tank vent hose. Replace it for $3 and you are good to go.

look into the wheel well and below the gas filler you will see a plastic cover that covers the filler tube. on that plactic cover you will see "buttons" that are about 2 and a half centimeters i diameter. these "buttons" hold the cover on. you have to pull the center of that button up about 5 mm and the whole button will pull out. i think it works best if you work the center piece up by doing a little bit on one side and then work the other side. you can do it without taking the wheel off, but its a heck of a lot easier with the wheel off. then you can inspect the filler tube and overflow pipe.
