I'm just coming up to 60K on my original clutch and should be good to go for quite some time as I am not hard on the clutch and my car has about 80% highway miles on it.
IIRC, Car & Driver had an article in the summer of 1994 when my 95SE was on order. It was a long-term update of the new 1995 Maxima SE. The test drivers ruined the clutch on the car they were testing at about 38K. They must have driven the car pretty darn hard.
Consequently, life expectancy of a clutch will be a function of how much abuse it has taken and the % of stop and go driving it has been subjected to.

111K so far...what is an obvious sign that it is goin? This kinda got me thinking when my friend, a self-proclaimed 'professional stick driver' (just got a 5-speed Saturn Vue) would rev to 3k before engaging. It was round I caught myself just watchin the tach the whole time. I'm not really familiar with clutches as much as I would like.

The conversion from miles to kilometres is 0.6214, so you have almost 112,000 miles on your car.

Cool, judging by this thread I'm in decent shape--I'm at 110k. I've had a whirr since day one, and a 4-3 chatter too (GGGRRRRRR dealership told me it was normal and what did I know back in '98?), but nothing's ever gotten any worse over the years.......

So when I engage in any discussions on the .org I convert an Imperial gallon to a US gallon as the Imperial gallon is 20.0% larger than a US gallon, with the reciprocal being 1/1.20 or 0.8333 which is used to convert Imperial gallons to US gallons and the associated mpg, as a mile is a mile.
I am an **** accountant and could go on about this all day, but I'll stop now, lol!

I replaced mine at 189k mi.... and only because I had to have my engine rebuilt after a timing chain failure so i figured it would be best to put in a new clutch and have the flywheel resurfaced...
The disc was pretty worn down, but there was still no slipping...

i had just over 80k,
never realy had any slipping untill i went to the track one day, after about 4 runs it started to smell, and on the way home i noticed the smell more, a couple days later i shift from 4th to 5th and the rpms jump but car doesn move for a couple of seconds.

I should start a new poll titled "Did your clutch outlast your transmission?" My clutch has 95K on it and grabs fine/tranny has the same and is spewing out more stankazz gear oil day by day and the whine is getting louder all the time. Got a j/y tranny in the garage waiting to go in when this one finally bites the dust. Because of that I'll probably go ahead and get a clutch kit for it but I really don't want to. My old 91 accord had 198K on it when I sold it with the original clutch.

I got some chatter when I engage mine...going on 120k (i'm assuming when i bought it that it was factory)...tranny seems fine though. Motor mounts would help I think. My gears dont engage smoothly because I think the mounts are sagging a bit.
Clutch makes a creaking noise when pressing it in...i think the pressure plate is gone as well as the throwout bearing.
Tranny does have a chirping noise when idle with clutch OUT so i'm guessing a mainshaft bearing there...
What do you think? Rebuild tranny or buy a used tranny?...

135k.....Im getting a grinding/ratchet noise with the clutch out. My mechanic says that it's the throwout bearing since the noise dissapears when I push the clutch in. He said I need to go ahead and buy a clutch kit so I guess that counts. Getting a lot of chatter too but I think it's the mounts.

I replaced my clutch at about 124,000 miles the first time. My slave cylinder went out and so decided to replace both to save on cost later(preventative maintenance). I'm at 160,000 miles now and the dealership just called me and told me that I need to have it replaced because now it is actually slipping. When I asked them why the clutch failed after only 35,000 miles all they could say was.... Nissan switched to a cheaper clutch kit. Can they do that?
#37
So it started slipping after a measily 35K? That's terrible. All that dough. I'd be peeved. Is there some kind of warranty? How bad does it slip. When does it slip mostly? I mean what are you doing when it slips? I have some slippage, but nothing serious.
#38
155k on mine and still going strong! It took an 1 1/2 hr of Chicago stop and go without any problem. Eventually I'll get a 5th gen and have the tranny rebuilt as it has a slight leak from the diff bearing.

It is pretty bad. When I talked to the Service Manager about it, she told me that there was nothing they could do, although they admit they have no idea why it failed so soon. She's the one that told me about Nissan using a cheaper clutch material, trying to put the blame on Nissan. She told me that I need to call corporate. I drive pretty mellow generally. I used to get about 430/440 mpg on city/highway driving, now I only get 390/400 mpg. I drive hard only on freeway on-ramps, merging onto the freeway at about 70 or 80 mph. On regular street driving I can sort of tell there is a problem but usually its not a problem, but when merging onto the freeway, if I accelerate too hard, the clutch slips. How can I tell if its a clutch problem or if its my tranny?

Would it be possible that you are contending with an unscrupulous stealership? Are you positive that they replaced the clutch 35K ago? Did you notice a significant difference relative to your experience prior to having the slave cylinder problem? It may be that they didn't replace the clutch.
This nonsense about cheaper clutch material is utter BS.
